Thread regarding Comcast layoffs

Northeast Division

Any word on Comcast's NorthEast Division layoffs? I used to work there up until I myself got laid off during one of their many restructurings several years back, but many of my co-workers from that time are still there.

NH here.. it seems like most departments were cut in half, or eliminated. We are merging with Central and West in my Dept. Huge layoff and we are hearing word there will be more in the new year.

@532 NED no longer exists. It was consolidated and most were layed off. There may be a few people left but there have been waves of layoffs all year. Last week more from Dx and some other teams.

Has anything happened with the NE Division? The other two divisions shut down, but nothing has come out about the actual status of the NE Division. Since the president of the new regional structure moved over from the division role, did all the other teams just move over as well?

I'm specifically thinking of the back office roles: Finance, Marketing, Legal, etc.

And what of the Greater Boston Region itself?

@1h4 Comcast requires 4 days in office and has for a couple of years now.

@1gj from what I've gathered from the State of NH, the warn notices are not required to be posted on the state website, so that's why nothing is on line. Not sure about MA. Seems strange that no WARN notices have shown up on their site.

Strange that Comcast didn't start requiring 3-4-5 days in the office. That's usually a way to get people to "voluntarily" leave the company.

@ek I am wondering if there weren't enough workers situated within the New Hampshire and Mass area to qualify for WARN notices? While we still have the NER (or New England Region that is both WNE and GBR), many of the employees actually live elsewhere. Many are in CT, Maine, and throughout the country. In the past, they restricted us to live within a certain # of miles and needed to be in Comcast territory to connect to our networks, but they lifted that restriction after Covid and many of the team members laid off moved to other states.

@143 Regions were not "safe" a lot of jobs in regions were also eliminated. they are pushing voluntary retirement very hard so a lot of those long tern region employees are getting out while the gettin's good.

Are the regions being looked at as well?

@143 so, all the non-technical operations functions within both Region and Division like HR, Accounting, Gov Relations, Marketing, etc....all gone from both region and division?

wow.

@ck Gov Relations folks - at least at Director level - also part of the purge. Some are applying for other roles (perhaps back at regions). Ironic that people went to Division roles thinking they’d be safe as the vibe was always that they’d collapse or eliminate regions.

@12s No. GBR and WNE still exist under a single region entity, and the regions will continue in the new structure. The divisions are entirely dissolving and will not exist in any form. The original comment equated the two.

@127 so maybe it was just confusion over the current region name. If they merged WNE and GBR into whatever the new structure was called, it's still gone, right?

@10p Inaccurate. GBR & WNE merged a couple of years ago to form a new region. After 1/1 all divisions cease to exist, including the departments you’ve listed.

Former co-worker (who's still there, I'm not..) confirmed at the only thing left of the Northeast Division is Tech Ops, Xfinity Stores, and Service Centers. Not only is the division gone, but the Greater Boston Region as well.

@OP We lost about 1/2 the frontline staff. Some teams were left mostly intact while others were wiped out entirely. The people who were laid off will be gone effective the new year.

@dj I've been trying to follow the WARN notices, which list the job titles being eliminated. So far Denver and Atlanta lists are posted. Nothing for New Hampshire/Massachusetts yet.

It's amazing seeing the top heavy management that was in place.
20+ VPs? 50-60 financial analysts, etc. And that's only one of the regions. Simply stunning at all the overheard that's being incurred.

@ck every area gone, some small groups lifted and shifted to HQ but finance, HR, CB, etc all laid off.

@ac that sounds like Tech Operations is unaffected? I wonder about the other areas of the business like Finance, HR, Gov Relations and such.

No changes to design or asbuilt team.
After the first round that seems to be it for the layoffs.
