@5ozr+1kQwlGYj Horrible wage compression is right. Learned that they’re bringing in Vision Center Managers at $25.50/hr now, with no optical experience and no Walmart experience. Two years ago the avg start rate for that role with no experience was $20….so, now you’ve got inexperienced folks making 20% more than experienced folks.

Will they give the experienced ones respectable raises to help offset this difference? Absolutely not. If you bring it up you’ll be targeted and gotten rid of……and then they’ll replace you with another inexperienced person making more anyway…..

Make it make sense.

Yes, I agree. There’s no hiring standards. And when there’s no standards to measure an applicant against, it’s a roll of the dice every time you bring someone on.

Many equate higher pay with better workers, and little has shown this to be the case. Turnover rates are still insanely high at many locations. Stores are hiring anyone they can to fill positions. Policy enforcement is inconsistent and standards are lowered just to keep people. Walk any store and see if dress code is followed. How many associates are walking around with ear buds listening to music or talking on the phone? You want to promote? It's easier than ever now. Many stores simply can't be picky when it comes to promoting. We've lowered the bar and we own it now. Frankly, it's sad.

Its positive that the minimum rate is being increased. They claim it will impact 300,000 associates. I find that surprising. Most markets already seem to be above $14.00 per hour. In Omaha Ne we pay high school kids $16.00 and hour to push carts. The big issue they will not address is the horrible wage compression that has happened over the years and that has accelerated in the last couple. I have an excellent 18 year associate in my area who is being paid $18,00 per hour. We recently hired a new person and she came in at $18.00 per hour. No experience. I understand the benefits of PTO etc.... but this is a huge issue with longer term associates

I’m fine with the pay hike. Anything we can do to bring in quality, new people is a win for everyone. Right now, there are no hiring standards and just look at who we’re getting. Some of these people have no respect for anything but themselves or whatever they want, and they act like that should be ok.

Omg that is so true. That has been going around for years. I once heard a market manager make fun of associates who had earned 192 sick hours and the manager called anyone with that amount of sick time accrued as “the 192 club”. SMH

Walmart wishes to get rid of long term associates because they get paid more and get more PTO than newly hired associates. Remember ya get what ya pay for.

Ok. But no mention of giving a raise to those long term associates. Way to kick them in the face after years and years of hardwork and dedication. Nowadays dedication and hard work means literally nothing to these greedy corporations.

A deflection from where you should be looking. All store closings and layoffs begin at the corp level. So you get a raise and hours cut. Walmart looks good. Walmart looks good and in comes automation and your out. This is like high theft stores ( sure right) will be closed. Now they will be distribution centers, set up. Walmart looks good. Like associates will not be laid off. Sam's clubs close, now there will be new Sam's clubs. Keep going in circles. What is inflation compared to your raise. Still making less.

Hopefully, this will attract a more desirable set of new hire associates.

Yay! Home office associates will take it on the chin again and get 2-4% raises.

Here in California and a number of other states the minimum wage is already higher than $14 an hour. In some individual cities in California it's much higher.
