Retirees get the Encore 25k option too, if you aren’t turning around and getting another full time job.

If you are under 65, the Intel Retiree Medical Plan currently costs $15K/yr for employee, $15K/yr for spouse, and $15K/yr for 1 or more eligible dependents. Not including the $6K deductible. Is that an advantage?
advantages for being retired rather than quitting (if that is the question) are:
- SERMA, if you are eligible
- Option to purchase retiree insurance
- Continue to get discounts
- Before cutbacks, Service Award and Retirement gift
- Accelerated stock, depending on age
- Catastrophic Rx coverage when on medicare
- I am sure there are more
These may not be huge, wow kinds of things, but definitely some benefits of retirement over quitting and I would have been disappointed had I not gotten them.
Are there any advantages to being officially retired? Not being pestered by recruiters, maybe? Ability to complain about being "on a fixed income"?
Well some would rather socialize with alumni who did their bit and found something else than those who keep taking it because of necessity or ambition. There are entire websites for that.
