Many instructors are turning to software like Quizgeko. Point it to a .pdf, website, or YouTube video and it will sp-t out a quiz with any number of and type of question that will cleanly import into Canvas, Blackboard, etc.
The instructor can review the content and add their questions, but it's much more customizable and easier than dealing with Cengage.
Instructors are turning to free books, articles, and YouTube and most colleges and universities are already using Canvas. It's much easier and affordable for everyone.
"Inside Sales for the win again! All of those that treated us like dirt, we still have jobs! This Higher Ed Tech company is being ran from the great state of Kentucky!"
So I think it's time we had a little talk. Cengage has always treated its inside sales people like dirt. I know you were referring to co-workers when you say this, but consider this: Pearson pays its inside folks the same salary that outside reps earn. And they work under the same bonus plan (when Pearson actually HAS bonus plans, that is). I think you're going to have to look at how much you are making versus how much your outside counterparts are earning. Now consider how much growth you are delivering versus those outside counterparts. Treated like dirt, you say? Yes, that would be an accurate description of things. The question is, why are you staying in a job in which you are treated like dirt?
Now that THAT is out of the way, let's get our terms straight. Have you seen the state of MindTap? Cengage is not a "tech company", lol. Nor are they much of a publishing company anymore, if we're being honest. Cengage is a widgets company that produces dividends for investors. That is the product, that is the reason the shingle remains posted. For now, at least.
Finally, the "company is being ran" . . . ? Seriously? Friend, you are working in the higher education space. No professor in their right mind is going to respect the professional opinion of someone who has not yet mastered the very basics of their own, native language. I get that you are based in Kentucky and that daddy struggled to scrawl his own name, but good lord dude - hop onto MindTap and dive into a remedial language course. Profs are laughing at you - and at your employer - when you use language like that.
P.S. Try perhaps to develop some compassion and empathy for your fellow rats trying to cling to this sinking ship. The last to succumb enjoy the relative luxury of watching others slide into the drink before them, but they too shall succumb ;)
I am hearing people with over 10 years in the company, who loved it last year, are brushing up their resume and looking for other opportunities- and these are not all people whose jobs are being shipped to India. I think the Employee Engagement Survey results are going to be abysmal and we will see significant turnover. The real question is if that impacts the bottom line enough they realize they've gone too far.
First round in 2024 is likely happening in late January. The only other, that I am aware, is happening in March/April. Private equity owners need their pound of flesh. However, on a positive note for those still employed is the Glass Door award.
Content management is going to India/CPI. Of the all the new 2026 titles, only ~5% are being handled by US-based content management. There are expected mass layoffs of content management.
Inside Sales for the win again! All of those that treated us like dirt, we still have jobs! This Higher Ed Tech company is being ran from the great state of Kentucky! Let that sink in!
@6dna+1qnhi1fP Sales, finance and a small group of of product managers directing cut and paste content. It would be a zombie corporation.
@5lne+1qnhi1fP so what does that leave on the US side of things???? Sales & Finance?
Increasing shareholder value by destroying American middle class jobs and shipping them to third world countries. It's the private equity way.
I've been hearing rumors that all of content management, learning design, and digital production is being outsourced to India. Not surprising considering our track record. Why pay an American a living wage when you can pay someone in India pennies on the dollar and still fu-k students.
so wots the deal IPS? tell us what is going on. show us your SECRET report!
Cengage has always been a joke. From the day it was birthed with that stupid name people have laughed.
If you don't know that layoffs are coming, I question whether you even work at cengage. layoffs are always coming.
My crystal ball says yes.
Greetings,
It is true that Cengage has not been a publishing concern for years, it is a bleeding edge Ed-Tech company.
This isn't even a publishing company anymore. Hasn't been in years anyway, but damn.
Definite changes are coming to Content Management after the announcement last month that most CM work will go to India. So I would assume those layoffs are coming soon?
Big round coming in April.
Just call the damn leads!
Remember when you would tell peers you worked at Cengage and it meant something? I can’t face them anymore.
Take your passion and make it happen!
