Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Wipro taking over VMW PS

Based on this announcement, my assessment is the PS BU is soon to be toast. I was thinking cuts and severance to the team. Now I’m suspicious that PS shall be sold/transferred over to Wipro. At least all the consultants with BizOps and PMO being cut.

The vast majority of PS work is now being done remotely. Given Wipro can do the same and much cheaper in India with VMW/Broadcom taking a cut of the margin without the staff overhead seems like a no brainer. Pushing PS work offshore is what all the big services companies do today. Not much left for the onshore PS team.

Interesting part is TAM isn't part of PS anymore. They are in CS so masked with the free services. I can't imagine Broadcom liking free services but he may like the large amount TAMs bring in for renewals

Keeping PS as-is is not in the Broadcom playbook. Assigning it en masse was what they did with CA and it was an unmitigated disaster that they are still having to clean up. They'll burn down or novate the back log and shut it down aside from TAMs.

Things will turn interesting after the holidays.

What really sucks is leadership not addressing these public announcements. When they sit silent that creates more concern.

I don’t view this as “business as usual”. Similar thing with HCL announcements not to long ago (post acquisition announcement).

There will be many opportunities to push the maximum amount of work to low cost partners once the start g-n has fired and the layoffs at VMware start rolling in.

As they said in the movie Office Space, “standard operating procedure”

This is just the latest systems integrator to build a VMW practice. Accenture has done same over a year ago to great fanfare - long before the acquisition was announced.
VMW's partner enablement has been terrible by any industry standard and products that are truly channel ready are the exception.

I like my layoffs with a side of outsourcing.

Go Hock go!

My guess is VMware will keep a very small PS group for Fortune 100 type companies and the rest will be outsourced to partners.
