Thread regarding Mondelez International Inc. layoffs

MONDELEZ is an AGE DISCRIMINATION MONSTER

Mondelez practices classic age discrimination, getting rid of older workers and replacing them with younger, inexperienced and much lower paid ones. It is possible to survive at this company in your 40’s, but once you hit 50 your days are numbered. They will do anything to make you miserable and try to provoke you in some way so they can fire you. If that doesn’t work they’ll launch a bogus investigation of you and make up a reason to fire you. I have seen this happen over and over and now that my 50th b’day is approaching I am feeling the pressure. If I could find another job I would leave before the inevitable happens, but no one is interested in hiring older experienced workers these days. My advice to all of my fellow older Mondelezians is to keep a journal of everything that is happening at work every day and everything that is said to you, so you will have proof when you get axed for no other reason than your age. If you work in the offices, keep copies of all emails because they will destroy any email proof of their discriminatory behavior.

The media needs to take a close look at this company’s discriminatory practices and make it all very public.

They included the ages of the employees that were laid off with their titles. They offered a severance, plus if you disagree you can consult a lawyer.

Believe the severance was enough to get you by for a few months.

Where one door closes one opens.

Call the Integrity Hotline. It is anonymous YOU DO NOT HAVE TO GIVE YOUR NAME. The investigations are NOT done by HR. HR is limited in what they can do based on their managers. Anyone can call the hotline and report what they have experienced and witnessed. The more calls they get the more they will investigate. Otherwise it will never be stopped.

I did not get the settlement I was hoping for, but was satisfied based on the rules for back pay. I became self employed and actually doubled my income and they bounce that off your “back pay”. Doesn’t seem fair, but that’s how is evaluated. Got just over a years back pay and I was top rated. Beating Dan McTaggart meant more then any lump sum settlement!

I won an age discrimination suit against Mondelez and this is how I did it! Don’t assume you can tell a judge your old and overpaid. You must document how you are treated differently then younger employees. For example, if you were written up because your merchandiser did not rotate product, then was every sales rep written up where that merchandiser also worked and didn’t rotate. The company practices double standards all the time, you just have to document them. Also, once you go to HR, you will have a bigger target on your back. Lawsuits at this point do not scare them, or they would change their ways. If they only have to pay 2 out of every 10 people they fire, then they are still ahead of the game. It takes over 2 years to win a lawsuit against them and they are betting on you giving up on the process. #file. #staystrong. #winonefortheteam

Today they announced that they are buying Tate’s gourmet cookies for $500 million. It’s another brand for Mondelez to destroy, along with destroying the lives of the people who currently work for that company. I’m sure they can say bye, bye to their jobs just like most of the people who suffered through their other acquisitions. If you’re a young white male who currently works for Tates, Mondelez might let you keep your job but only if you’re willing to work cheap.

Amen to that! Regardless of what the plaintiff won, was the fact that she challenged them and won. They get away with it all the time, nice to see at least a hand slapping!

I’m glad that woman in PA won her age discrimination lawsuit against Mondelez but the amount she was awarded was next to nothing. Just $200,000 for what Mondelez did to her? That is barely a slap on the wrist for this company that throws tens of millions at their CEO every year, mostly for cutting costs by firing people like this woman. Mondelez business is doing poorly due to really bad management so they cut jobs to make up for the profits they are not earning. Of course they cut the older employees first because they can pay the really young ones next to nothing. It’s a sad state of affairs for all of us who have worked hard year after year only to be kicked to the curb by these bastards. Maybe they will just start hiring part time high school students so they can pay minimum wage and offer no benefits. That sounds like something Mondelez management might actually be considering. It’s no more outrageous than most of their other stupid business decisions.

HR is an extension of Mondelez management. It’s their job to twist everything to make it fit into policy. Regardless I would still file with HR and the EEOC, a paper trail is what you want. Each individual does not scare management, a class action will! People need to share concerns.

The original poster is 100% correct. Once you hit 50 you’re basically on death row at Mondelez. I’ve already had numerous comments hinting at the demise of my job. I’ve been loosing sleep over all of this and it’s making me sick. With two kids in college I don’t know what I will do if I loose my job. At work I feel that every word I say, everything I write and every move I make is being scrutinized as they seek an excuse to fire me. It’s not that I’m paranoid it’s just that I’ve already witnessed it happen to others. I’m still in contact with one of those people and she is still unemployed after more than a year.

The strength in numbers comment does not apply here because we all see what’s going on but everyone is afraid to speak up because no one wants to be next. What we need in a whistle blower in HR. I wonder, is there anyone at Mondelez HR with a conscience or is it a requirement to not have one in order to work in that department?

Mondelez does whatever Mondelez can get away with. That is regardless of the EEOC and regardless of people winning age discrimination lawsuits against them. As long as there is no bigger focus, hello 60 Minutes, they will continue down the same path they have been on since Mondelez came on the scene, getting rid of all of the older workers who have the highest salaries so that management can get their big bonuses. It’s a horrible atmosphere to work in but we all need our paychecks for as long as we can get them. No matter how much you document and complain they continue to fire senior workers using lies and deceit.

Exactly, and for anyone paying attention it’s easy to see Mondelez is moving towards that! Than if the purchase occurs Mondelez can put the onus on Kraft! Kraft has reps, and by the way we’ve been their once before bit too long ago! Fasten your seatbelts, gonna be bumpy ride whatever occurs! They cannot continue a downward spiral, changes on the horizon.

Buffet said no to Kraft acquiring us. Not profitable enough. Get rid of the expensive DSD and unions that are eating up the profits and maybe it will happen. Cookies and crackers alone will continue to trend negative here in the U.S.

That rumor has been floating around a while, that Kraft will buy us. Irene hoped to spit off and promised shareholders growth, which never happened. Dirk is now onboard because he allegedly is tight with Kraft people and is again pushing for them to acquire us. So far, no luck. Gonna have to slash more jobs and eliminate dsd to make numbers for favorable. They closed branches all over the country, a move towards ending dsd. Mondelez needs to tighten up before so we look more profitable.

Do yourself a favor, file a charge with the eeoc! Age and gender! At least they will know they are being watched! It’s easy to do and next time they may think twice before passing you over! You have one year to file. Perhaps other will do the same. There is safety in numbers!

I completely agree with these post about Mondelez and HR is definitely in on all the blatant discrimination. They are big on age discrimination, compounded by s-x discrimination. I am a woman in my mid forties and I am at Mondelez as a former Kraft employee. BTW there are rumors that the two may merge back together again. I have an excellent employment record but I was recently denied a promotion. To make things worse, the position was given to a very young man who is a recent college grad and really has no experience to speak of. Now he is my boss and I constantly have to do his work for him. The company really pushes on helping the young new hires but what the F...!! I shouldn’t have to train my own boss!! They hire these wet behind the ears youngsters, force you to train them and then they get rid of you. I’m sending my resume everywhere with hopes to get out of this Godforsaken company before they get rid of me.

I hate that we are all suffering at their hands like this but it’s good to know there is a community of people out there to vent to. Thank you all.

Don't bother reporting it to HR. They're in on it! They're letting two people over 50 go due to a "reorg."

The tide is turning! It was corporate America but more people are willing to stand up an speak out! Just because you don’t report it doesn’t mean it didn’t happen! And just because “corporate America” is doing it it does not make it right! Management has a philosophy that if they do it to everyone than it makes it fair! Wrong, it makes it that much more shameful as they will find out! The tide is turning!

I can’t agree more with the entire statement made in prior thread. 35 + years of loyalty, moving family and passion to win brought to a sharp, sudden end. Many ways for supervisors to develop smokescreens ( it is probably in a manual somewhere) to push older employees out without the thought of Human Resource intervention. Per the suggestion of prior post, the unfortunate need to record conversations over the phone (there will be NO email trail) with a supervisors’ berating and embarrassing taunts that causes not only medicinal needs, but the idea that you are useless as a person. I know many others who have gone through this and are barely hanging on to gracefully retire as deserved.

I’ve heard this from a ton of people. Not he’d add to see either! Woman who recently won her suit in Philadelphia, kudos! She turned down a settlement offer, would have had to sign a release of no wrongdoing, which there was! If it walks like a duck and talks like a duck, it’s a duck. Don’t just document it, inform HR. The retaliatory behavior will begin. Then file with the EEOC. A class action lawsuit against Mondelez is just what the Dr ordered for them!
