We just moved counties and bought our first house to be close to GE. We are terrified. There are no jobs that pay even close to what GE does. I am on disability & I can't do anything to help. If my husband gets laid off we will likely lose everything including our house that we've only had 2 months.
No one has mentioned any type of severance package to the 10% permanent layoffs. I am just so, so scared....

To the person that commented & said that GE paid for our moving, they did not & we aren't rich, we don't have a back up house. My husband was laid off, temporarily, no fat severance package since it was temporary. The lay off lasted a few months & my husband worked hard, so we didn't lose our house. I hope you have a nice day knowing the facts now, not just going on your petty & stupid assumptions.
Ge avation to lay off the entire work force at its Wilmington Nc site this Friday sending them out the door with only the telephone number for unemployment office
Of all I could say, I'll say this: if they lay you off, you've been given a precious gift. The gift of FREEDOM. Relish that opportunity, in whatever disguise it may come.
@4uap – The OP said "counties", not "countries". The family probably moved within a state to be closer to GE, and they were probably born and raised in the U.S. – just like you. For sharing their worries, the OP gets to read your vicious, heartless reply.
Maybe someday, you'll develop some humanity and stop being such an a@*hole!
Yes GE Wilmington is firing 50 hourly and buying out 12 salary.. these are permanent layoffs not temporary. Seems like perfect timing since that plant in Mexico is firing up next month.
So you're saying someone who has been there for six months is safe if they relocated over someone whose been there a year and didn't relocate? Everything this company does is so backwards.
Well, i am pretty sure, you did not pay for the move yourself, GE did. I am also sure you got fat bonus package, that GE paid. And you can easily move back, being only 2 month in US, i am pretty sure you have nice backup home. And GE typically don't layoff 1st year after relocation. So compared with ppl who are actually being laid off, so sorry for your worries.
Welcome to GE. The land of uncertainty, insincerity, insecurity, and insanity. Have a nice day!
