Thread regarding Allscripts layoffs

Bangalore takes over

One of our development groups was given word today that the leadership moving forward will now be run out of that hotbed of qualified 'talent' known as Bangalore.

One has to wonder if the third world approach to toilet usage will become standard as well. Make sure you look for the memo!

Everyone is tasting the bitter fruit of globalism. Corporations enjoy all the protections of the rule of law of US, while avoiding actually employing Americans at market wages.

I do not resent our Indian colleagues because of their ethnicity. It's true, they are the 'low cost' solution. And yes, I do find that most do not have strong technical skills, with a few bright bulb exceptions.

The real enemy are the politicians and bankers which continuously work to undermine the middle class - the people who make it possible to even have a successful business. America first, patriotism in every aspect of our lives - or just turn the lights out now.

What is " third world anorexia"? I specifically said it had nothing to do with India. It's about going for cheap contracts. Don't expect developers that would barely be considered junior, to do senior level work.

Speaking from experience, I had to completely rewrite code from these cheap contractors in order for it to work at all. And when I explained the changes that needed to happen with other code, I was told it would take over a week for them to do it. I ended up doing it in 5 hours.

So yeah... They're 1/4 the cost of onshore, but their code was either unusable (infinitely more expensive), or it took them 10x longer to deliver. So where's the real cost savings in there?

It's less about India, and more about the desire to use the cheapest labor possible. If they could fill a large scale contract for less money in Uruguay, they would. Problem being that the contractors who work for pennies deliver code that is priced appropriately. ...and it's not like the onshore managers (with no tech background) can recognize the difference.

Looks great for those quarterly Wall St investor calls. "Hey, look how great we are at reducing our costs! Bump up that stock price so I can sell my options!" Not so good for the long term health of the company. Quality goes down, customer trust and satisfaction goes down, long term income goes down.

@5esf+16TzE9Ov: positive reviews written by Indian associates really should be no surprise. Management in these groups, as well as those who have lengthy experience with playing the contractor game, are quite expert at using smoke and mirrors to make themselves and their teams look good, particularly compared to Americans.

They understand that they're expected to say and do anything to be competetive. As an example, developers around the world make use of Microsoft Certification testing to promote their skill sets. However, if you spend time on the internet researching, you'll notice that it's normal behavior to locate copies of various test versions, complete with answers. Working through the questions, and memorizing them, will ensure that you become MS Certified. Even if you don't actually know how to program. All it takes is skill at memorization. Likewise with interview questions. Ethics isn't really something valued in these situations.

PB is selling what he can to make $$$ the software products across the board are terrible at what they should do. Clients are leaving products not selling... That is what shrinking the company. Not PB leadership intelligence. 2BP is vaporware at best. No one would purchase that with being given something of greater value ...and there is nothing left. Seriously 2BP...

It looks like India resources are leaving mostly positive reviews on Glassdoor. One must wonder if they truly treat them better there or if they are coerced into leaving these reviews...

Pune is still in operation. Bangalore and Pune both have great teams operating out of them.
PB's strategy is to sell off a number of biz units to reduce the overall size of Allscripts, then find a VC to take the company private. EPSI was the first target, then CarePort, but they can't find buyers for that. Also note the attempt to brand Payer Life Sciences as Veradigm so that can be severed and sold off. Expect to see 2BePrecise sold to Pharma pretty soon.

I'm shocked that the board continues to support PB. He took over a $2b company and has done nothing with it. You can blame the previous CEO for a year, but then you need to produce results, and he has utterly failed in this regard.
I'm also amazed that Lisa Khorey is still in her role. She has failed to hit expense and revenue target every quarter since she was hired, and yet she still has Paul's confidence. Perhaps the rumor that they are lovers is true!

If Allshits believed there were more highly qualified Engineers and Mathematicians in India than the U.S., then they wouldn't be paying them a fraction of what they paid the US workers. I hate to disappoint the poster below who is enjoying the Koolaid, but talent has nothing to do with why they're choosing India over the U.S. Sip up.

@4toz+16TzE9Ov: no one said there weren't mathematicians, scientists, etc. in India. After all, the education system was one of those big benefits left by the British.

Unfortunately, we're still living it!  The ultimate question remains: when will my position get eliminated?  Will it get eliminated?  With the agile principles in mind, it would be nice to have some transparency and predictability when it comes to the lives of worker bees as well, not just when it's about counting the leaders' $$$s.  Given what we've been through, all-in sounds like a joke, except it's not funny at all!  Perhaps when I am handed let's say a five-year no-position-elimination and a no-salary-reduction contract, I may consider coming back.  Until that day, good luck to y'all.

Anyone feel like they lived through a traumatic life event working at Allscripts?

@4toz+16TzE9Ov I am confused by your comment. No one said India doesn’t have mathematicians, doctors, etc. but those qualified individuals sure as hell don’t work for allscripts.

If you’re worried about “qualified talent” in a country full of mathematicians, engineers, and doctors then I’m afraid sir/madam, you are the unqualified one.

@3wia+16TzE9Ov: IIRC there was a comment made during an all-hands meeting where LK described the Indian workers as the heartbeat of AS. Something to that effect. Odds are unlikely she had any clue how that omment might be perceived by an actual worker. 'Uncouth' seems an appropriate descriptor.

Allshits doesn't give a c-ap about India, no more than they do about their fellow Americans who are employed here. India is just cheap labor, plain a simple, that's the only attraction.

WOW! No loss for arrogance on either side. Now Allscripts is announcing COVID is curred ( reinstatement of salaries ...) Now confirming 'squatty potty prevents colon cancers. Dr. OZ must be on the AS Board now. The ONLY moves left for JR. Achievement leadership is to drastically reduce costs... Move everything to underdevelopment countries ... The product lines developed in the us ARE NOT selling. Not that moving the development off shores will do anything but save $$$$ internally ... Having a zero understanding of physics leadership continues to move 1 direction oblivious to the catastrophic motions in other areas ... good luck .

I’m very curious how that will play out with customers in NY and other locations that state in their contracts that Allscripts can’t offshore the developer work. Guess PB and LK didn’t learn their lesson from the mess that was left with the Ukraine Dev operation. Hope they plan on giving $$$ back to customers before lawsuits start piling up.

@1zyh+16TzE9Ov: do you mean the 'country of origin' that actually created the internet, semi-conductors, computers, programming languages, and all the other tech we use on a daily basis?

Not sure whose posterior you've had your lips attached to lately, but you need a bit of a wet wipe...

No memo needed. It's a cultural thing. No need to bring it up, though it can be kind of grotesque.
