Thread regarding Teradata Corp. layoffs

Teradata, joined Kodak, Blockbuster, Polaroid, Borders, ... long ago, too late to recover ... you be the judge

Some will have us believe that Teradata can be saved and does not have to be another Kodak, Blockbuster, ... they could not be more wrong. They are making desperate appeals to save their own hides and to continue to enrich themselves on the backs of people that work by doing fake work to prolong the inevitable. These people have no pride or concern about others. Their main goals is self preservation to enrich themselves. They are articulate, sly, and calculated to win your trust to achieve their goals.

Kodak, Blockbuster,... were declared out of the game only a few years after the digital and internet era ushered in their replacements. Teradata was behind eight years ago and have been trying to transformed since but not getting any closer. Some would say that the company have fallen even further behind because of the lost of talents, toxic, environment, incompetent leadership, and everything broken.

The company today lack identity, no culture, and no trust or respect for its management. Despite the 8 years, there´s no native cloud product, the current bolt on product is clunky with lots of moving parts riddled with quality and performance problems, revenue continue to decline, no customers, low morale, and decimated organizations and processes.

While other cloud native products continue to gain market share and innovate to do everything Teradata can do, Teradata is squandering money, people, time, and resources on WOKE and DEI and internal politics on top of dysfunctional management and organizational structures.

It would take many years and a monumental tasks for a real talented management team with well tuned staff and organization to bring it back to where it was 8 years ago before talking of being a contender in the market place. This place has none of that and so it would take a lifetime with no guarantee of success. The people who are there knows this and relish the opportunity to milk the place dry under the guise of a miraculous turnaround and unfortunately the Board of the Directors and analysts are falling for it.

Teradata, if the clunky cloud product survive is at best just another me too cloud database with least credibility and track record on the cloud. The competition´s market share is growing and other more innovative companies are more equipped in the competition.

Just read the posts, do your own research, and decide for yourself if you want to spend your time and energy on this sinking ship, risk getting laid off and your livelihood in the long run or recognize it´s time to leave this toxic place behind and start your own recovery before it´s too late.

Posts like this is a disingenuous sales job that only benefits those advocating it...

"If you care about this company, please look for a way that you can be part of the story of how it comes back to glory. Not every company ends up like Kodak or Blockbuster."

"What contribution can you make to be a part of an amazing comeback story?"

@4thl+1m5TLd7q : that's because innovation is no longer permitted. The spreadsheet masters control everything and impose so much bureaucracy that no sane innovator would waste their time here. Just ask RG what happens when you try to lead a major innovation project.

There is no innovation at Teradata.

I must say the saddest thing about TD was seeing colleagues pandering to leadership to keep their jobs / maximize their stock awards. This is back in 2021 when I left and you could easily find an equal or better paying job elsewhere. I guess it's a similar phenomena as battered wives syndrome that keeps them there.

Teradata’s real differentiator was linear scalability via MPP. This was in an on prem world where CPU, memory, and storage was scarce and expensive. Customers placed huge orders and bought for their peak workloads. The cloud changed everything with elastic scaling and pay as you go. Teradata missed the move entirely. Slowly sinking ship with the same outdated CTO who denied cloud.

If you need to stay for whatever reasons, work like an ELT and save your sanity and mental health.

Just say yes to everthing so they feel they are in command and you are obedient. Go to all the WOKE, DEI, and ELT pet project meetings and have a good time. You will get paid handsomely and who knows even rewarded and recognized for exemplary compliance. Don´t worry, no matter what you do, they already decide who to lay off and when. Speaking up will only expose yourself to an accelerated schedule. It´s your choice to pre-empt it by leaving on your schedule instead of theirs.
