Thread regarding Toronto-Dominion Bank layoffs

Performance Improvement Plan

Anyone on here know how PIP's work at TD? Long story short: I just started a role about 2.5 months ago and my manager has started sending me detailed emails about how I'm not doing anything right, missing deadlines, and being meeting standards. It feels like I'm being "groomed" for a PIP. What's the process here? How long does it take before the manager can fire you for performance? I really like the team and the role - and I'm working a lot of hours - but it seams the die has been cast at this point, so I need to figure out how to move on...

@73s employee relations doesn’t exist. I’ve spoken to an employment lawyer and others who agreed with me. I drafted a letter to the president and there is an investigation underway. The employment attorney was nice enough to do offer counsel at no charge. Thanks to everyone for your support

@OP Go to Employee Relations and file a complaint against your boss for harassment and creating a toxic and intimidation work environment for you. Intimidation and toxic work environments are against the law.

@4sq I'm pretty sure all email to Ray, especially from external parties is pre-screened by his assistant so it's unlikely your email would even be read by him. Worst case an ex-employee emailing the head of the bank might be interpreted as threatening or an attempt at extortion. Your lawyer should follow the proper channels to try to make your case against the bank. Thousands of people are terminated or restructured out of jobs at the bank every year. Many are successful in getting compensation for the bank dismissing them without cause.

@4sn thank you! This was the employment lawyers suggestion to get a payout. And you are correct

@4hm I don't think emailing the bank president will help. You should contact a lawyer who specialises in employment law. You may have a case against the bank. It won't save your job, but the bank may give you a payout.

Hi - I was placed on a PIP and then terminated. The Manager never provided me with any feedback and HR didn't do anything. I am thinking of emailing the bank president. Does anyone think this will help.

Depending on your role- read the handbook, you need to run looking for a new role by your manager first, and most likely need their "blessing". Weigh the options.

Thanks for the info all - OP here - The role I'm would be great, but the direct manager is super toxic - micro-management, disrespectful, borderline abusive, and a poor communicator. It's funny because everyone else I work with and interact with has been awesome. I remember when I started here and thinking this was an awesome group of people that were happy and glad to be here - which was a change from my last company. But I've made peace with my current situation - it is what it is - and I'm actively looking for another opportunity - life is too short to deal with this - If I get let go, that's fine with me as well. Part of me wants to gut it out for a year and move to another role - but I just don't have the mental stamina to pull that off.

As the other person commented, they can let you go within the first 90 days without having to put you on a PIP. The fact that you are asking here suggests you care about your job and want to do well. It's too bad that your manager is treating you like this. In the first 30/90 days it's on the manager to train and coach you but it sounds like your manager is not doing a great job at that. Either the manager is setting you up to let you go before the end of your probationary period or they are just toxic and get off on making you feel like cr-p. The organization is full of toxic and incompetent managers these days, none of this is surprising.

You can be let go within 90 days. A pip is not required in your situation.
