Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

@4r7 I think the same thing and it happened to me as well. We were even told we were going to be a N75 store and we would get more staffing and money, but why are they cutting this position?

I got cut about 3 weeks ago now and I was told the last day before I had to be coded as something different. I still now do the same beauty merchandiser job without the title I am coded as a generalist and am taking away hours from everyone else. I am grateful but feel bad. As I looked around after being cut there is no way the selling people are going to do my job. They are too worried about commission and not getting their hands dirty. Heck they complain about when their nail breaks. I agree that it is real d-mb to have the selling people do my job and theirs when I'm gone. I spend 40 hours a week cleaning, organizing, putting out stock, putting up heavy displays, and more. How is somebody supposed to take pride in their area and sell?

The visual captain in our store will have more on her hands now that she has to do the beauty merchandiser job.

@qd Correct. Tasks will be delegated to visual captains with help from the beauty manager(s).

Won’t be surprised when a lot of visual captains then quit due to more work load and no pay increase.

How many actually got cut?

The beauty merchandiser at my old store worked her butt off running all over the store. Incredibly hard worked who made sure everything was right and signed accordingly.

BAD move, Macys…. All to make the shareholders happy, right? LOLOLOL when cosmo sales are down across many stores nationwide… stores that have cut that position- we will know why. Designated sales colleagues/counter managers with product knowledge taking time to do massive displays instead of focusing on the customer…
All to save a few $$.

Remember the Beauty Experience Lead position? It turned into Beauty Merchandiser and now they are cutting it.

They’ll probably just dump the load back onto visual! Beauty advisors could care less about doing visual. The counter managers really don’t have a choice because it’s their counter. Beauty merchandisers do a lot for the pennies they get paid! Pushing 300+ lbs of displays across the floor when the load says it’s for 3 people or more for the holidays like Valentines, Mother’s day/Father’s day and Christmas! All to not even get a thank you. They’re making a huge mistake eliminating that position, it’s necessary. Maybe adjust the pay and add some unavailable days to their strict schedule. They have a life too outside of Macy’s.

Yes- position is only going to exist for big stores like landmark locations and stores that make $$. All other stores are eliminating the position outright and transferring those employees to open positions in their stores.

Very unfortunate with all the work that position does. Counters will be responsible for own displays etc

I heard that beauty in general is taking cuts and that they are forced reductions not just attrition
