You’re correct, they do need to trim the managers who have no one to manage! In 2009 there were head count reductions that were aimed at “eliminating unnecessary structure” and many LL6s who were recently promoted were walked out. It wasn’t long before a flurry of promotions gave us, once again, too many managers with no one to manage. SRD was supposedly intended to balance the management chain of command and make sure every leader had at least four people to lead. Once again many good people were walked out. Didn’t take long before there was another flurry of promotions and more people hired. Ford has a pattern of promoting as a reward then slicing deeply into the LL6 tier when someone points out that they once again have too many managers. Are the people making these decisions forgetful, unable to learn from the past or just dim?
