Will there be another SVS? Not sure there are enough volunteers to meet the quota.

an SVS has been offered in US, UK, NL, and Canada - not including manufacturing (in the US at least). No timing for layoffs stated to my knowledge

What are the SVS package details in Canada? You’ve mentioned it is 3weeks per YOS in US (with 12 and 78 as min and max respectively)... is it the same in Canada?

@4mmq+14RM9NGa I think they are going through SVS to truly identify people that may want to retire early. Under normal economic circumstances, they would also get younger workers that are ready to move on to other companies.

One thing we know for sure: the new re-org will have to be finalized BEFORE they notify SVS applicants whether they were successful or not.....and that happens in July. July will be when they notify us of next steps (whether it is MOR or just outright "shoulder tapping" telling people they are being let go)

My project is about a year from completion. Normally there will be a severance package for people who will retire after the project completion.

Please advise:

  1. Should I apply for the SVS now?
  2. Should I skip the SVS and hope there will be another severance package at the end of the project

I really want to complete the project and don’t want to miss the financial incentives.

Thanks

Which groups are going through a reorg? I know of Avanti in Unconventionals, but who else is on the chopping block?

Manufacturing not participating in SVS because Shell is divesting of most of it and buyers need employees who work in the business to run it.

Sadly, in the end, the same connected incompetent leadership who are running this company into the ground will survive another day. There are too many sr leaderS who do nothing and need to go.

@4tdi+14RM9NGa, this is exactly what I wonder. First, you would think they would give the window longer (like 1 month) to make a decision if they really want people to make an informed decision on leaving. (Recognizing there are limited jobs, means that those with transferable skills likely would have to look harder). Second, many of those who have transferable skills and can get jobs may be blocked by their leadership from benefiting from the SVS (block them from leaving), so it's almost like they did this just to say they did it.

So obviously the SVS is not going to achieve the desired result, especially in this economy where no companies are hiring. My only question is: will the forced layoffs be via "managed MOR" or will they just approach the affected people?

Manufacturing not participating in SVS..meaning keep eyes open like a crocodile..

Question for OP:

Are you saying that, in parallel with the voluntary severances this summer, there will be INVOLUNTARY layoffs going on as well simultaneously?

US severance package is 3 weeks pay per year worked, with a minimum 12 weeks pay for employees with 4 years or less, and a maximum 78 weeks pay for employees with 26 years or more.

There is a good chance we will have exit interview via Skype.

New employees with less than 4 years service are always ring-fenced in MOR.

Unless you have a degree that is very specific to the oil and gas industry (petroleum engineering or maybe geoscience), even if new grads are temporarily protected, is there real value in planning for a long term career with Shell or any other large oil company? (I should say if I picked one to stick with, it would probably be Shell because they are at least making efforts to diversify the portfolio beyond oil.) I guess I'm just thinking out loud about the long term value proposition you can offer a mid- high end to high end grad these days versus some other industry.

Our project should complete next year. Will Shell let me take the package and stay on the payroll to finish the project?

I spoke to my old line manager and he did tell me that, although they are downsizing his department that he oversees, they are still going to hire the graduate that they extended an offer to before oil took a dive. So at least in that case, the "grad" was protected.

S—s for grads and employees who just started JG5 roles. Their severance isn’t much since their years of experience is low.

Thanks for the explanation on severance package. Looks like my two years will get me a whole 4-6 weeks. Lucky me...

Let's not forget that it is the POSITIONS that are mapped, not necessarily the people in those positions. Have seen this in past MORs. Person A ready to retire, Person B is not, but is in a position that is going away. So they package out Person A and then move Person B into Person A's vacated position.

My point being that, if you want a severance, speak to your line manager even if you know your position is mapped. There may be some horse trading that can be done.

I'm sure there are positions that will be mapped i.e. ineligible for SVS. Why would they pay to package someone out only to have to turn around and hire someone externally to backfill the position? Doesn't make business sense. So yes, I am almost certain there will be some positions mapped.

What is the exit date for those that participate in SVS? Any idea if there will be an incentive for those people in addition to the 3 weeks/yr?

Does SVS make you ineligible for rehire in the future assuming you're leaving in good terms? Anyone know when you could possibly reapply at Shell?

And what sort of reasons would deem you SVS ineligible?? I could see certain skill sets or gurus being denied if they anticipate a shortage.

To answer the question about which part of the company is re-organizing, I would guess it is across all businesses and functions (except maybe New Energies).

They may do 3 weeks per year of service during the voluntary phase, but during the re-org phase I guarantee the package will be lower. They have to give an incentive to people that volunteer.

Two questions:

1) Which part of the company is reorganizing?
2) Any idea on what the package might look like?

Update

  1. Voluntary layoffs will begin mid May...(yes)
  2. Reorg layoffs will begin in June...(maybe)
  3. Layoffs will end by end of August (employees accepting packages need to leave by the end of September; cannot extend with vacation)

LOL at the earlier post where the management line is "Applying and being denied severance will not affect your career". Yeah, right. And I've got a cure for COVID-19 to sell you.

Knew about #1, but did not know timing of #2 and #3. Thanks for the tip. Well the work not tied to assets targeted for divestments still has to get done, so I expect KL, Manila and Krakow will be experiencing a job boom.
