Every crumbled empire offers up its lessons.
Anyone else here ever cruise past your old Sears and then stop for a moment, to think of how it was back in the day? I do it all the time.
I will keep time traveling in my mind, even after they tear mine down. Which will be the end of the year, as Where America Shopped makes way for another stick–built, multi unit apartment complex.
Oh well — it's not really about the store. It's about memories, time & place. Sure. However, the passage of time is natural.
A lot of you are nostalgic on here.
At the end of the day, Sears Roebuck is a brand. And a brand is something that you can only hold in your mind. It is not tangible and never was.
It lives on as long as someone dreams of an era where quality was guaranteed, or your money back.
To me it lives on in reading your memories, watching YouTube videos and hunting down Sears/Craftsman deadstock on eBay. The fascinating tale of this ragged, zombie company will live on for quite some time with me.
With the right mindset, you can time travel any time you want — it's always the 80s in my mind. There's more for your life at Sears! PS Kmart always sucked.
