Thread regarding Lenovo layoffs

Wow...

Seriously you all are a bunch of fearmongering either ex-employees or employees of competitors. Sure, they may cut fat like every year. But you all are acting like they're going to close down every GD job in NA. Go jump off a bridge.

Looks like the people in Asia are eating their own words. The layoffs did come!

@catq+14ZU9hxr: Are you the same tool that kept preaching "no layoffs?" As far as your statement about the Chinese "Leadership" - they're doing what they always do: posture excuses for missing impossible targets and poor decisions made by boot-licking yes-men. The rank and file suffer the consequences of the cowards who dare to call themselves leaders. I don't think anyone in all of Asia has the spine or courage to admit THEY were the ones who were wrong or made the mistake. Always have to make someone else look bad and take the fall. This company is completely backwards. I'm so happy I'm not at this sh-tshow anymore.

you did not listen at the kick off meetings obviously.
The message from the Chinese leader was simply
We had a good year last year on PC Company, but Moto made a loss, and DCG made a loss while not even meeting revenue target.
Tforecast was a stormy year coming , expense challenges, no payrises, no promotions, no capex spending.

It was not hard to work out.

Back to Basics,

@6dix+14ZU9hxr - again, without more details this just seems like fear mongering. Are layoffs possible? Yes, certainly. But propagating information without any details to back it up seems pretty low for someone to do. Unless you have details to back up the assertion, I.e who is affected, my advice to all is to not worry since these are all rumors from unknown sources online.

This goes for anyone else posting too. Post with tangible claims and maybe someone will believe you. Until then, stop trying to bring people stress...

The wheels for this are already in motion and the date is set... Hang on tight.

@5esg+14ZU9hxr - have to agree here, without any real info a date of "May 28" seems like a cop out considering in 2019 it was on the 29th. Need more detail on who is affected in order to bring any sort of weight to the rumors. Because for right now, that's all they are ..

No way Layoffs. Listen to earnings call Q&A. Demand is booming on PC. Hyperscale coverage expanding. 5G will help mobile.

@4lhs+14ZU9hxr - can you elaborate? Who is affected? Is it reps responsible for end users? What about specialty (i.e. Services) ?

May 28th is when the next round is coming. Leadership thinks that the partners will carry the load. Best of luck.

I seriousLy doubt the person that started this thread is a Lenovo employee. I have not met a single actual employee that would label the yearly or sometimes quarterly layoffs and financial problems at Lenovo as fear mongering. Probably a jealous journalist. Haha.

Lenovo Earnings webcast was very positive as usual but stock is down as usual.

Why?

Lenovo's Q4 profit slides 64% on pandemic hit
By Yifan Wang
Published: May 19, 2020 9:15 pm ET
Lenovo Group Ltd. said its fiscal fourth-quarter net profit fell 64%, as computer sales took a hit from the coronavirus pandemic, while corporate expenses and some fair value losses weighed on profitability.

Revenue fell 10% to $10.58 billion, mainly dragged by its personal-computer business.

Looking ahead, the company said its global footprint could help mitigate the macroeconomic risks brought by the public health crisis and maintain consistent performance.

It also expects the current wave of working and studying from home practices to lead to long-term demand increase for computers and data centers.

"Meanwhile, the Group will exercise disciplined expense control to optimize its liquidity and financial health," the company said.

The earnings report showed a 2nd-year decline in DCG revenue due to Hyperscale business staying stagnant. This time last year, the earnings report didn't mention layoffs and yet they axed several jobs a week after announcing record revenue and profit. Layoffs are coming and everyone internally knows it.

No mention of layoffs in the earnings release that just went up on Lenovo.com, looks like people were worried over nothing.

One of DCG's development VP's is out, her role getting "consolidated" with someone else's. I suppose I should at least be happy that the cuts aren't just happening with the rank and file, though I suspect her parachute will be a bit more golden than mine.

@2pxh+14ZU9hxr "it has been weeks since lazy american workers (note they are all American) start whining about layoffs"

Oh, aren't you a clever troll! Americans in IT are some of the hardest workers on the goddamn planet. Sure some countries beat us out if you're talking total hours worked in a week: (S. Korea and Japan, to name two), but we are FAR from lazy. if you actually worked at Lenovo and saw how many hours the average US worker put in plus the obvious higher quality of our work, you'd be asking us to teach you how to do it the right way, you dolt.

Maybe if the Chinese would actually learn real innovation instead of making cheap copies of superior technology this company MIGHT not s—. The only reason the US and other western countries put up with your sorry excuse for commerce is because you're dirt cheap. Too bad you have no concept of quality or integrity, but since a bunch of bean-counting jagoffs run these type of sh!tshows, that's the reality we are forced to accept.

Oh, and then there's my personal favorite: The bullsh!t concept of "face"... This basically means you clowns can lie through your teeth to avoid looking bad in just about any situation. Since it's part of Asian "culture" its acceptable, but pull that sh!t over here and you're shown the door.

"Fat"? What alternate reality do you live in? In NA there is no fat let alone anyone left that can actually sell DCG products. No direction, no vision, high sense of expectations equals no results

So 35M Americans are laid off because they are lazy? I invite all of you to look at the main layoff.com site to see what the site is used for. The rules are clear.

Yes it is funny, it has been weeks since lazy american workers (note they are all American) start whining about layoffs. Maybe if they would work hard instead of post anonymously about company to create mistrust, there would be no fat to trim.... still no layoffs though, and no proof that they are coming.
