Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Another VP gone EUC CTO and VP Shawn Bass

Voluntarily out. Entire office of cto for EUC broke up and spread out to engineering, Product mgmt and product marketing.

Really? They couldn't even get him to stay for the acquisition.

Pere Monclus VP/CTO from NSBU also out. Three CTOs out in a two week span. What is happening?

Those commenting about Shawn being an "innocent goofy Dad" never briefed him on products only to watch him then go on stage and lie about them and do it again with customers. "Fighting the golf fight" to him was helping spread the corporate dishonesty. Whether or not he tried to do something about it behind the scenes does not matter. Publically he was a useful id--t and a liar.

Longtime VMW people / koolaid drinkers are as sensitive as aging beauty queens.

Can't even pop off on an anon rant board without Palo Alto pa----s getting all twisted into knots. GMAB

It’s an anon forum not related to VMware with a just few simple rules listed in a footer. Names are not allowed, so don’t name people that aren’t already c-suits or other public figures unless you wanna get your post nuked. Also, when talking about someone focus on their work actions and not on their looks and personal stuff, as personal insults and slander are not allowed either.

Same, he shielded his team from so much politics, was never too busy to answer queries, genuinely celebrated the teams little wins like a goofy proud dad. Most of them would work for him again in a heartbeat.

The people commenting here didn’t know Shawn.

As someone worked for Shawn for literally years it makes me sad to read some of these comments from people that clearly have no idea what went on here. Shawn was a fantastic leader who put up the good fight for years and always had the best interests of EUC’s customers and the business at heart, but more than that he’s a fantastic person that always had the best interests of his team at heart. Get your facts straight and stop with the petty name calling, there are real people involved here.

The point is Madden was lured to VMware by Bass and friends who told him that an evangelist would have a bit influence. He never would have come to VMware if Bass and Shankar had not opened the door for him.

@4ond+1ltor7oI Thanks for the heads-up on the Brian Madden LI post from May 2022. I just read it. His analysis is spot on.

I’m not sure I’d agree re: Brian.

Brian made the fatal mistake of assuming a marketing / influencer / evangelist / mouth piece would have a voice in an engineering organization.

Inevitably he got an ego check and was told to go back to evangelizing while the grown ups talk.

Sort of served him right and his “post exit” blog post was worth every cent paid.

Shawn was not a "good soldier" - he was a useful id--t who lied about VMware products, enabled the corrupt EUC leadership and lured other fools like Madden to career doom. He leaves with millions. Of course.

I passed this link on to a coworker and they said "what comments on leadership?".

I came back to the site and Holy cr-p! They deleted the comments.

So instead of unfiltered, anonymous post (some with no basis and trolling) can get through, but those that post real feedback is quashed. Oh thelayoff.com how you just F'ing showed your true colors.

Shawn was made to push the narrative, and he did. A good soldier. And his projects he ran under ground (ChaptGPT research on support side, Zero Trust in EUC, protocol wars dropped, etc, etc) were not recognized. They wanted him to shmooze customers and shut up. But "hey, we're taking your team away, deal with it" was too much.

I guess that stuff can't get pass thelayoff.com because his last name and color isnt right.

Shawn is a brilliant guy that the engineering and mgmt team decided they didn't need to listen to. And even after they got him out somehow got any mention of them deleted from the comments here.

Shawn was cut off at the knees as he proposed things. The VP wanted his 3-4 developers in the advanced development group to help with their backlog (3-4 developers helping hundreds). And he KNEW it was a ploy to push him out.

Why? Shankar wants to control it, cut costs, and double dip (get some money from avgo them get some retention money from a buyer of EUC). Shawn is just a line item on a spreadsheet, while he keeps promoting mediocrity.

Wait, what happened to the comments about WHY they thought shawn left? Deleting the stuff that talked about how the ELT forced him to talk about products that werent real or cut him off at his knees on his programs he was pushing (like Zero trust in EUC)...

I guess you can't really post on this board about the indian mafia in EUC?

Subject: EUC Leadership Team Update

EUC SLT,

I’m writing to share an organizational update in my leadership team. After 8 years with EUC, Shawn Bass has decided to leave VMware to pursue other interests. His last day is March 15th.
......

It went on to describe his career and how they are breaking up the octo office and looking for a new cto....
