Thread regarding Teradata Corp. layoffs

Trying not to overreact

My boss and I have always had a good working relationship. But I’ve noticed in the last month or so he seems to be avoiding me like the plague. What little interaction we have there is no eye contact on his part and for some reason he seems to be distracted lately. Granted we’ve had a few new hires in our group and I thought the urgency in meeting certain project deadlines was the reason. Now I’m not so sure. Am I overreacting here or is something up?

Stay focused and stay positive. In my professional life I have been in both companies during booms and busts. You cannot control the external forces, focus on the value you bring to your org and make sure you are visible to your boss by what you are working on and how it aligns with his priorities. Don't get caught up in emotion or trying to "read" body language. Take charge! And if you really sense something is wrong? Make sure you discuss it in a way that focuses on your work and not emotion. And also polish up your resume if you are overly concerned.

TD leadership has a core competency for being vindictive pr*cks. You manager is being rude and unprofessional. Talk to them about it, document the conversation, make THEIR boss aware of it, and don't just wait for a layoff, PIP, or poor performance review k–ling your bonus. If the situation is bad, NEVER go down with the sinking ship. Move to a new organization, or consider leaving TD. I am actively working on the latter, because I've seen too much at my mgt level to ever consider this place ethical in the slightest. Good luck OP.

@4dpm+19FmmTbT I think everyone’s trying to tell the OP not to let this jerk boss’ sudden behavior get the best of them. If they’re doing a good job, f— that manager and keep chugging along. TD has a way of messing with talented people. So the message is “Keep doing what you’re doing, don’t let TD games get the best of you and it’s easier to look for a job when you have a job”. (hint hint OP)

@2kbz+19FmmTbT, really?? "keep kicking butt" and doing a great job for a manager that's treating you bad? Yes, give up your mental health and stay in a situation where its taking its toll on you and just continue working hard and making them loads of money?

I think I understand that you're trying to be supportive and that is a good thing but there comes a time when you have to evaluate what you're getting compared to what the company is getting.

To the OP, I would say to look at how you're treated and give back what you get. If it's good, then yes, work hard and do good for the company. If it's bad, don't take the abuse and get yourself somewhere you're appreciated and your well being is respected.

If you're kicking butt, there's nothing you can do. Just keep doing a great job and remember you're awesome. Don't let the 'lay off games' Teradata plays get to you.

Go up and say hello can I help you with anything. A little bit of human interaction from both sides works wonders in an age where we tend to rely on chat to communicate.

If you are producing at a good level compared to others, then that's all you can do.
