Thread regarding Canon Inc. layoffs

Morale at an All-Time Low

One common theme about Canon is clear: it doesn’t matter which building you work in, the problems are the same. Canon doesn’t suffer from a lack of talent.. it suffers from a lack of leadership. Employees show up, work hard, and carry the company forward, while management hides in endless meetings, promotes favorites over performers, and makes decisions that protect themselves at everyone else’s expense. Supervisors are handed titles without the skills to actually lead. The facade of care may look good on paper, but the reality employees live every day tells a very different story, no matter how polished the corporate messaging may look

@53d surveys only go to HR junk /spam boxes. form a union instead if you actually care about employees.
find a local chapter to start the process. the only way out, is forward. Maybe "power of one" was not a stupid corporate slogan after all.

If morale is low sounds like a good thing to say in your employee survey.

@4d5 and apparently no more strategic pricing. Or real employees if you pay attention to the many consultant email addresses.

@4af we are declining because we have no leadership or support.

@a3 We need to collectively decline.

@a3 and the funny thing is, and I can only speak on my location, the "collaboration" is a joke... They don't want anyone talking, or getting up.. If micro managing is "collaborating", then my location is excelling at that.. Maybe they should "collaborate" with everyone about how long the contractors in the Phillipines will be doing our work..

@e6 I agree 100% with this.. It's crystal clear that there are way more contractors than should be needed.. Departments are scrambling for work and if people don't realize that with this move with the Phillipines that a layoff is in the near future, they are definately riding the delusional train..

What’s with the constant consultant email addresses? Why is there NO communication about it? Why am I fighting for my customers not to mention for my life on the word and/or problem solving skills of temps that don’t know a thing about Canon?

How about the fact that more and more contractors are being hired in the Philippines? There is clearly less work for certain departments to do and we have impending doom wondering when we're going to lose our jobs

It is deeply saddening to witness the decline of such a prestigious company and brand

@a3 Entirely possible, and the "collaboration" excuse has become laughable. We come into the office and sit in teams meetings... The only thing we collaborate about in the office is our local sports teams and the idiocy of our commutes.

Added to the fact that many of us were brought in after the mass pandemic layoffs in 2020 and it wouldn't be a "return to office", it would be another expansion of in-office hours without any compensation for the money & time we waste on the commute and other associated costs. All for shared public bathrooms, keycard swipes, cheap coffee, and more teams meetings just so Sammy can justify the remaining commercial real estate and fool himself into a perception of control via keycard swipes...

Don’t be surprised if office time is increased from three to four days next year. I just read Starbucks is taking this approach for its corporate offices for more “collaboration” time. Sammy tends to be a copycat.
