Not sure how true this is, but if it’s true, it’s freaking hilarious (even though I’m probably affected). When you have antiquated systems tied together with duck tape and you lay off people who can fix/improve them, what do you expect. Just another example of not having a clue of the true state of the company. Totally deserves it.

@amkg+18dKMFww You are making no sense. Have you tried to hack into any system while you were working in a company? Have you been successful? So much hatre for Sears but it doesn't meant they were weak so any hacker can hack them easily, even internally.

Doubt transformco paid but I guess you never know. 88sears has enough personal info that you wouldn't want it out there.

I have frozen my credit report which I probably should have done a long time ago because there are data breaches every other day. I watch my bank account anyway but paying more attention right now. YMMV.

As far as only insiders having access to the internal system, that is the point of hacking. Getting into internal systems from the outside.

88sears is back online! Was the ransom paid? or did Sears have backup servers?

@4acb+18dKMFww I doubted that the hacker was able to get employee data through 88sears, 88sears doesn't have any employee data. You have to hack into the peoplesoft to get employee data. To do that you have to be in the internal network. Only insiders has access to internal network.
If they got data it must be from the returned laptops of employees who recently got laid off. People who got laid off suddenly due to plandemic don't have time to clean up laptop before they give it back. Once transformco sold those laptops to resellers those data become valuable to hackers.

https://www.cybereason.com/blog/cybereason-vs-egregor-ransomware

The article says it's called 'Egregor Ransomware' and they steal the company's data. They have 72 hours to negotiate a ransom or they release it to the public (dark web). It's already been 3 days so we must assume the worst!!

The chain storage article talked about your data being found on the deep web for sale. I don't know if that's a fact or speculation but you really can't be too careful.
Transform should be notifying current employees and even former employees to take precautions. That is – if they can access their info. The current employees could be told though for sure.

Does anyone know if this type of ransomwear actually steals employee data, etc. or just locks everyone out until the ransom is paid?

Make sure to watch your identity information. you know the company didn't secure it. Keep an eye on your credit reports, the bank account you use for direct deposit, etc. I am because it's easier to deal with if you see something right away.

What could possibly get worse for poor Eddie? It's been a bad year and karma's a beeach. First the worst pandemic in the last 100 years, now ransom wear he can't afford to pay, how could things get any worse? How about an investigation and criminal charges for looting the business? There was already a lot of talk about his shady business practices during the bankruptcy and the new administration won't be so business friendly.

Employee data.
https://chainstoreage.com/report-kmart-hit-ransomware-attack

Eddie is not going to give a whit about employee data. He fired the IT and closed India. He was warned about how bad things would get and then did. SYW hardly functions, etc but this affects the rank & file.

Keep an eye on your information. I'm watching my info. He won't pay the ransom. It's possible the hackers may take pity because it is such a sad situation.

Lp is going to have more oversight of cyber security going forward I heard yesterday. They hired a few IT people that were laid off as well which I was happy to hear.

Q """Will this affect payroll?""""

A Only if you're a nonexempt employee and use Red Prairie everyday to punch in and out. It will most likely affect you. So many hourly employees still left, but absolutely hardly anyone left in payroll. Fill out those time corrections TO THE LETTER, and hope for the best. Pathetic, but true. Good Luck!!
And again, we can thank LP for this pathetic nightmare.

Perhaps Eddie should not have defunded LP, he should have allocated more resources so they can do their job!

Ransomware is Egregor which just popped up sept 25 and they have hit 71 others from sept 25-November 17. They expose the info they stole on the dark web.

And, of course, everything is necessarily half-assed these days, and Transformco cannot afford to bring in an expensive technical strike force.

Honestly, much more than all of the wacky "This is it, Transformco is doomed", this is the closest thing I have seen to real doom looming.

With this kind of stuff, you either pay the ransom, or you have to engage some really skilled, really expensive specialists to clean up the mess. And to make it provable clear that the mess is cleaned up, nothing is lurking anywhere waiting to re-erupt, and that all doors are closed and locked.

Even if you pay the ransom, you still have to make sure that nothing is lurking anywhere waiting to re-erupt, and that all doors are closed and locked. This is expensive and time-consuming.

There is absolutely no half-assing it. You cannot even 63/64-a– it.

You have to wonder if that stretching device on sears.com was used as a distraction to allow something to slip in.

"competitor trying to steal trade secrets"

Bwah. You should do standup.

I'm not sure there's much of a market for the secret of how to painfully destroy a 100 year old company

Eddie chased away most of the IT people from the company so this is what happens when there is nobody left to troubleshoot and fix network problems.

Steal trade secrets??? Eddie sold off all the trade secrets!!! There’s nothing left to steal.

Lots of business get hacked, it happens all the time. It could even be a competitor trying to steal trade secrets to gain an unfair advantage. Standby LP will get to the bottom of this soon

Many systems down from early this morning, including Red Prairie and ARS. Few updates throughout the day, and those updates did not specifically detail the action that is being taken as they usually do. Ransomware sounds right to me. Great job LP! Keep up the good work.

Company wide ransomware has our computers locked up. Can't access anything, we get a pop up with the ransom note.
