Thread regarding VMware layoffs

Denial

An internal post in Slack glorifying our people and culture was very well received by the loud minority. We can't argue there as it will be seen as non inclusive.

Our people are just like other people in other companies. No we're not the top 1%. Likely we are below average as it takes 2x number of people than what BC thinks to grow and thrive.

Our culture is similar many tech companies, nothing unique that sets us apart. One major flaw is it focuses too much on self congratulatory. We should measure ourselves on our market share. vSphere the crown jewel has stopped growing and hence major innovation also stopped.

Look at the affirmative action laws implemented in France and the UK. They simply prevent the hiring/promotion decision being based on identity. DEI has a strong presence in France/UK and so do hiring practices the go to extra effort to include URMs.

Keep on dreaming sunshine.

No need to dream. It happened for college admissions and it will happen elsewhere.

I’m sure before the Supreme Court decision on university admissions you said the same thing.

"When the Supreme Court stops this works place bullsh-t"

Keep on dreaming sunshine.

Stop listening to mo--ns like Tucker Carlson and the like. They feed you this BS full well knowing that it's not true, but do it to maintain their position as a "truth teller" to their loyal audience.

Blaming others for your shortcomings.

As said multiple times in this thread, there is no blaming of DEI for one’s own shortcomings. The problem is that DEI is a bad policy - certainly as implemented at VMware.

So you go cry and hug your pronouns. Keep seeking out other loser companies and enablers that perpetuate this stupidity. When the Supreme Court stops this works place bullsh-t, as they did with college admissions, you will be the one getting the wake up call. But in a cult, no one answers the phone, so you probably won’t hear it.

To say it again, since you only know how to regurgitate a script of BS. No blame on DEI for “my own shortcomings”.

Hahahahaha your self to sleep in your dogmatic cult DEI-ta-d.

HAHAHAHA.... typical loser comment. Blaming others for your shortcomings. I second the other poster who asked what will you do when you don't have DEI to blame for your shortcomings. Keep crying and remember: Hock is not a white male, nor is he an American born citizen. You are up to a BIG wake up call.

BC "growth" is a bit different than market opportunity growth. We grow by squeezing the ball$ of our customers til they bleed. Then tell 'em we love 'em, as longs as they stay. Most customers have little
choice, the switching costs are simply too great. It works as long as TikTokTan can find the next company to buy. Depending upon where you're at career-wise it can be a great place (ie, 3-5 year or less before retirement...)

All about the fear here. Some folks post campfire sing a long slack posts and some come here to spout stuff they are afraid to say to their coworkers (double the fear!). Different people cope differently.

Sorry for a real response, but there were very few ways to drive real change. Pat left in Apr 2021. Dell announced it would sell us off in July, and did in November. The next May Broadcom made its announcements. Those were carefully set dominos that yanked the company focus in different directions.

I'm of the camp that believes that Raghu was specifically chosen as someone to keep status quo and not rock the boat. There was, at least, only six months there before Dell sold off to do anything. Broadcom came knocking right after, and probably had prepared for it in early 2021.

The feeling I've gotten in the past two years was the same. Keep status quo, make small wins, but don't be disruptive.

or they just don't care anymore.

It takes too much time to research and buy your first private jet, third vacation home, and test drive the latest supercars. Something has got to give.

The apparent apathy starts at the CEO of VMW and trickles down through all the layers of retired-in-place VPs and Directors. Considering my 20+ years in tech, this is one of the most uninspiring leadership teams that I've encountered, so far.

While I don't doubt that there was a time when the leaders cared to move the business forward, after just a couple of years here I'm wondering what on earth happened to their enthusiasm and willingness to change? Is is just denial, or they just don't care anymore.

We haven't innovated anything in 8 years. We've acquired innovation and failed to assimilate it at a speedy pace to outperform our competitors.

Because people like you find ways to blame something else for your own failures and shortcomings. And given that you blame DEI in literally every single post here means you probably fell behind in your skills and will be un-employable.

Nope. I’ve gots lots of talent. No blaming for failure!

The policy gets in the way of execution and on top of it the top down moralizing has no place in the workplace. The Supreme Court knocked or out of the school selection process, next is the workplace.

Give up the line that “we” blame DEI for our problems, you couldn’t be further from the truth.

You're going to be in a world of hurt when you get laid off. Because people like you find ways to blame something else for your own failures and shortcomings. And given that you blame DEI in literally every single post here means you probably fell behind in your skills and will be un-employable. But have fun on here while it lasts.

Why aren’t the Ver pronouns part of the PowerPoint template?

How can we even be having a conversation here without everyone announcing our pronouns?!

The horror, the insensitivity…

If only layoff.com would put a text field specifically for our pronouns like VMware’s PowerPoint templates we could finally communicate with each other effectively.

Help! Help! I'm being oppressed!

That "loud minority" is not the minority. You are not the majority. Get out of your echo chamber. You can continue measuring yourself by your EBITDA, Hock. Others realize that work makes up 40+ hours of their week, and so try to make it as tolerable, even pleasurable, as they can.

I don't know what some of you will do when the DEI boogeyman is not around to blame all your problems on.

We will be even more productive and not have to go through bullsh-t interviews with obviously unqualified candidates.

Too bad DEI isn’t just imaginary like the bogeyman.

The problem is DEI, not me, plain and simple.

The DEI train is a useless phase that contributes ZERO to the bottom line. In fact- it costs and there are no tangible results. DEI is colloquial and many of us are sick and tired of having to deal with 23 genders, fake pronouns, targeting while tiptoeing on eggshells, bloated HR, training that has absolutely nothing to do with our jobs. Confirmation bias towards race is the most racist assumption and quite frankly- those that have kidnapped terms like this are responsible for triple masking and saying the vaccine works when in fact it’s accepted by the left if you’ve been vaccinated twice and boosted 3x and still get Covid- it would have been worse had you not got all the vaccines that are not tested by proper trials and time by FDA. When we can put politics aside and just do business without all the social engineering and follow actual science- then we can prosper as individuals and the company as a summation. Hallelujah. Broadcom will somehow make it without all the political craziness that the DEI folks cling to.

There are a lot of truly horrible, arrogant and talentless people who now work at VMware. And it's not just the insufferable DEI and participation trophy crowds. VMware has become bloated with mediocrity which Broadcom will remove.
