What on the world do we have in Turkey?
@3me+1jvbh6eny Why is the company putting Americans on assignment to Turkey when it's making UK employees redundant? Turkey is in the EMEA region.
Pay huge assignment allowances whilst making those in region redundant... Company is clueless.
How are those Middle East country premium and benefit cuts feeling with the US military and embassies evacuating families back to the USA? So much care and benchmarking for the win! #winning
@3m6
One last piece of context… i’m houston based and the assignment is in Turkey.
@3m5
3 year assignment I mean. And when I say I’m losing money it’d be after considering my wife loses her income
I’ve been offered an expat assignment to the middle east and just realized the premium has been cut by 5%. My wife works elsewhere making ~$130k/year and would have to quit to join the family for a 3 month assignment. Overall, after including all benefits I’m losing money going on the assignment. I really want the experience so will probably still say yes but wondering if there are any tips for me to try and get more out of it?
Management committee doesn’t seem to realize that not all countries want BTC employees in their country. They won’t want to pay top dollar for a BTC employee expat. They also won’t even want to give a work visa to a BTC engineer.
Unfortunately the cutting will continue.
The Corp doesn’t like the idea of expats but I can tell you that some countries need expats to continue to operate. other expats are blood su-king and only after the money.
Boo effing hoo
I take a proper Indian house, built from concrete, steel and bricks over those cheap McMansions built with a nail g-n and low quality plywood any day….

if anything, it’s the Americans who abuse housing allowance the most. In India, they get cooks, house maids, drivers and love in houses worth $2mil USD. The allowance given to any expat in the USA is bare minimum.
How much could it cost rent a dung hut?
Employee in HR told me they changed the housing allowance words because the Indian expats were not being given equivalent to home country housing. The housing Indian expats were being given was so much better than their home country housing that it was an audit finding.
The locals hate expats because it is a constant reminder that they don’t have the ability to do it as my kids say, “all by themself”
Previous poster: I was hired before low cost was the only consideration. So yes, talents.
Talents? Previous poster, if you had an ounce of talent, you wouldn’t be working for EM.
Last two posters seem to think we all should work for free! Good luck with that bro! Many other places to take my talents to.
DW is doing a great job at controlling the costs. Expats for too long have been overpaid, glad to see it’s being controlled
It is important to cut any expat benefits. If a person wants and begs for expat assignment (su-ky Indians going to BTC, useless BTC and Europeans coming to America, or worthless Americans going to Asia or Europe),
they should cover the cost on their own. I think the company is still paying and wasting too much money on expat benefits.
We all know how expats have abused the old system and benefits. If an expat wants more benefits, we should fire them.
Be grateful, ex pat opportunities for us Europeans have more or less dried up, although I agree any reduction in the recompense is just taking advantage of those remaining faithful.
Like everything now, benchmarking just results in a race to the bottom.
The housing allowance words have changed and now so wooly but effectively the allowances will go down. Another kick
Married unaccompanied allowance for flights have reduced from 5 to 4. It’s hard enough being unaccompanied in the base case so this is another kick.
Premiums for Qatar and Turkey were reduced. Another kick
But remember we are competitive against a made up benchmark using a consultant that HR pick themselves to make up the data.
Expat assignments lost there appeal for me years ago. After family assignments in Muscat, London and Aberdeen, the family said enough. We settled in TheWoodlands and I went 28/28 for several decades until retiring. They made one last run at me with a family assignment in Melbourne, the money just was not there. So, I continue the 28/28. For someone in my position, 28/28 is where the real money is made for half the time. Sweet indeed.
Good luck finding your way
Any details please?
Nothing significant. OP will also never be offered an expat opportunity, just the usual complaining.
What was cut?
They want you to leave.
