Thread regarding Union Pacific Corp. layoffs

Transportation employees- sick leave abuse

Colleagues in transportation, listen to today’s townhall. Eric and Jim coming for you that are abusing sick leave. Eric said if the abuse continues, he will change attendance policy. “Bad boy bad boy what you going to do, what you going to do when Eric and Jim come for you”.

They tried the doctors note thing in the 90's and had to pay a bunch of back pay for employees being held off work unneccessarily.

These geniuses are going to run up healthcare costs, pay employees to be off more, and end up with a bunch of litigation like is happening with the MOW employees that were put in LA status.

@3vqu, there is running a business and then there is attempted cruel coerced servitude. I hope next time it is 18,000 up employees who decide to take the same day off and go do something else with their precious time. Until the managers have to work in trash, fe--s, looking over their backs for homeless dr-g addicts sneaking up behind them there is no EQUALITY. Lets diversify their day to day work conditions w/ front line employees work conditions and INCLUDE us in their normal standards like clean and safe places to work. And before you defend the selfish monsters by saying “if you dont like it, quit” We will quit when UP pays us the severance that will equivocate what we would lose in RR retirement. Remember we employees didnt change the work loads and cause the layoffs that lead this place to ruin, management did. And if you dont like the truth spoken above, you should quit and go advocate an unjust economic caste system somewhere else.

Eric can cry all he wants.. Guys have days to use now.. They’re not breaking ANY policy.. He can’t be crying because they’re using them.. He cried because some will save them for December.. Now he’s crying because so many have been used in January.. Basically Eric just likes to cry a lot.

@3vqu-Lack of manpower is not our problem. We didn’t ask for all of these furloughs, UP forced them on us. If Eric wants to get mad at someone he needs to look at the one person above him, not anyone below him. Typical UP, reduce employee numbers and then complain and blame us that there isn’t enough employees to complete tasks.

Oh, and I’m sure he was at home himself watching the same game.

Did anyone hear what Eric said 1800 employees off during a football game. Now if you were running a business and had 100 employees and 30 took off sick during a Sunday football game what would you do?
Maybe requirement should be if you lay off sick need doctor note to return.

If you use a PAID day there isn't anything they can do. Now if your calling out No Pay, then yes they can do something. Managers are just salty cause we got them now and their bonus got shrunk!!!

Non union employees have many more sick days than union members.

How is sick leave being abused? And they can crank down on that attendance policy all they want, they lose at arbitration 95+% of the time and end up paying allllll that back pay.

The arbitrators have warned UP in the past that if they get more draconian that they're going to hammer them with rulings they're going to really regret...
