Thread regarding BP PLC layoffs

Thoughts on Today's Technology Webcast?

Wow! Nothing, simply nothing. Just some fluff talk and nothing of a substance. Standard mode of operation, change top leadership and hope for the best, rinse, and repeat.

Hearing all the ‘AI bets’ are off with the exception of rolling out co pilot. Makes sense, the last thing we need is more cr-p chat bots.

SP looked like someone was behind the camera with a g-n telling him to be positive. He was hired to implement product management in BP and now that might be going away

@4gyt+1tDC5HOK Not all the data leaders Fran kept around were good for BP.

That was nice of Fran to do that. She was always a people’s champion

Did they not try to let go of data managers before? Heard some fuss about it late last year or the start of this year but Fran kept them around

Don't worry about data managers. Anyone who has been hired from a tech company in the past 18months will be first to go.

@3ulo+1tDC5HOK what is the indicator that data managers would be among the first to go? Feeling nervous

Product managers and the design team (which are basically BAs??) will be the first to go

the call did note that they want to use the new hubs to hire talent to takeover activities currently led by contractors. more news to come in September. if they do choose to decrease employee count i think technical program management, architecture and data managers could be the first to go

Did no one else hear that there will be layoffs? Was everyone tuned out for that part? I distinctly heard the phrase “subject to consultation” we should all know that means is we aren’t in India we are f-ed.

It’s the same in other businesses too. Leaders say we are not changing our strategy, then say we are changing, but don’t say what we are changing. And they say we are not re-orging or downsizing, then say we are changing, but don’t say what we are changing. This absolutely maddening.

The radical changes, new vision and strategy that are needed at bp will not come until there is a massive house cleaning at the top of the house in bp leadership and the Board.

@kct+1tDC5HOK if I worked for Amazon, and was any good at my job, I would not be joining BP.

A real struggle in sharing a vision. Bp leaders have always struggled with this.

And, SP? Wow, this is the guy we got from AMZN and his glorious enterpeneual background. All about his achievement rather than sharing his vision forward at bp. O bet you, he will collect $$$ for a year or two and will be on his way out for next. If it takes him 22 months to learn BP, wonder how's a life of a new joiner (experienced or otherwise).
