Do you predict that there will be Corning layoffs? Any chatter, news or rumors?

"Where are the CC1~5 rooms? (E.g. TD, PRC )How big are they?"
They are by the Compass in AR building at SP and have an entry at the circle to easily dump people out. Not sure actual capacity but CC1 is generally a ~6 person, about same for CC4 & 5, CC3 is larger but on other side of paddle door, and CC2 is biggest of all (~30 I think)
"I asked several people that I met today if they heard anything about planned cuts. ... some said it would target higher ranks"
Similarly I spent some time talking to a former coworker who is now a director, who is getting ready for a move with Decker closing ... they're bringing all personal stuff home as they pack, and while they can easily guess something is happening, no one has asked them or anyone else at their level about ... anything. They also said that due to being purely admin they have been made to feel particularly vulnerable - all talk from their leaders has been about adding value recently so they feel a significant trimming of admin costs is coming.
Where are the CC1~5 rooms? (E.g. TD, PRC )How big are they?
Thanks Grandpa!!
That helped....I can now count to 5 all by myself!
I am low on the totem pole so i don't get any direct info. But two big meetings that were scheduled to happen in the next couple of weeks got randomly postponed. I sometimes wish they would just get this done with instead of dragging it out.
Disco duck said "Ducks can't count" and I found something helpful for Disco duck. Please check out the following video where you can learn how to count from one to five

I was told that the company decided to split the mass layoffs to 2 days. Union people being laid off on January 8th. The company wide layoffs for January 17th.
In my previous post I stated "all 5 are booked..." This should read "all 4 are booked...."
Ducks can't count.
The CC1, CC2, CC3, CC5 conference rooms at Sullivan are booked for the entire day on January 17th! These are the rooms typically used for mass layoffs. If you look at the schedule for these rooms, they are typically free most of the time. It is very rare that they are booked for a full day....and it is only for mass layoffs that ALL 5 are booked for the full day. So, it looks like it's going to happen on the 17th...Quack, Quack, Quack!!!
It is very sad to hear the that the layoffs are coming this year. I know Corning has come up to this point due to variety of reasons (few known and handful of known) and one of them is very very bad business decisions, particularly about the CPT. Are they still lighting the Vineland and Big flats? Some of the executives (I guess but not being judgemental here) thought 2020 Pandemic as 'perpetual' and started off an idea about having infinite supply of vials and making infinite money out of it...which was a blunder and that led to about 40% to 50% of WF reduction. One of the trend (again, not being judgemental here since 60% of Corning products are based on very wise vision)that I have seen in Corning is that hire and fire strategy (If there is someting interesting concept/opportunity/sufficient capital --->hire someone-->if that thing fails-->drop the entire team) and everything is so impulsive and fast paced here. Some people might say hey, this is corporate America and everything is at-will and hire-and-fire are the backbone for some tech that Corning tried and failed..Yep...that might be true but that does not add anything towards the rich culture that Corning had until 2016/17. Hire and fire is a very very bad culture. Also, have seen a lot of favoritism in Corning - worst enemy of an early career employee.
Moral of the story -- If you see a war then you should never ever start building a factory of firearms to sell before having a complete vision.
Instead of the usual useless morning small-talk (e.g. “how are you I am fine, thank you, nice weather isn’t it”) I asked several people that I met today if they heard anything about planned cuts. The consensus is that yes, cuts are planned sometime in the next few weeks (weeks of January 8, 15 came up frequently). For those that gave me a number, it was in the 200-500 range for the whole Corning valley. While some said it would target higher ranks (director), someone also said that the cuts would include some union workers. I usually try to ignore the rumor mill, but with this level of consensus I am starting to think that it might happen. I will continue to ask around...
Rumors are the week of Jan. 15th
My guess? Yes during Q1 based on EOY results and general readjustment resulting in 'musical chairs' as well as leftover changes planned in Q4 taking effect (the 'no more layoffs' mandates some talked about in other comments late last year). Possibly also some changes/reductions at the sr manager / director / vp level to deal with being so top-heavy ... but I personally see that as 'extremely unlikely', as I feel that nepotism & favoritism could easily be made Corning's 8th and 9th core values.
Obviously the bigger picture depends on the financials ... but there is a part of me that hopes something is done to correct the balance of leaders to workers - what we have now isn't healthy either to the businesses or the careers of those who do the work.
