This will be a multi-year, multi-round, ugly affair. We're just at early stages, it will get progressively stressful and humiliating as they run out of "low-hanging fruit" targets and also run out of layoff criteria. Intel is already a bad company to work for and it will only get much, much worse. Only the paranoid survive.

But but nut TSMC already doing 5nm and 4nm and just started 3nm so Intel what do you see in the rear view mirror ?
Actually, Intel 10nm matches 7nm Samsung and TSMC in density and efficiency - righteously called Intel 7. However, this is the typical ignorant rhetoric I would expect from the bitter layoff community. Every bit of negativity can be explained as downturn in the macroeconomic cycle. The PC is far from dead which is why a few quarters ago the layoff was a ghost town.
Of the BoD and Pat really had the long term interest of the company in their mind and it their stock based compensation shorteterm the actions would be very differenr
The size and scope of the cuts will evolve over the next couple of quarters depending on the revenue shortfall, macroeconomic conditions and future demand. Get some popcorn. Interesting to watch as long as they don’t cut dividends. If the dividend gets cut stock will enter a death spiral which will accelerate more deep and faster job cuts.
Alright, I am already sorry I didn’t take that package so maybe I’ll get another chance next quarter.
Only the sorry a$$ people will stay till the end.
AMD ramping on next node and Intel still stuck on 10nm. There is little hope for recovery as the x86 competitive position has been lost. No manufacturing or technology advantage compared to AMD. The same can be said about executive leadership at AMD versus Intel.
To think Intel can be competitive or make money in graphics is laughable with Nvidia and AMD domination.
In technology being second or third means losing money during recessions and bust cycles!
There is no way Intel becomes a leader again.
Look around can Intel make money as 2nd or 3rd. They are fat, arrogant and greedy, no way! Layoffs are coming!
I know some capable people left recently or are about to leave, it will be my goal for the new year as well. :P
