I was planning to retire at 54 and everything was planned.
Last steps were to give notice to TR and leave.
Then I figured these folks can’t go 12 months without making people redundant , so I will hang on another 12 months and see what happens.
Then as predicted and only delaying retirement by 8 months the dark shadow of potential layoffs started to appear across the unit I worked in. I actually mentioned in passing to my line manager that if getting a partial in my yearly review that was always hoping between exceeded and achieved would help my case , then I would be happy to take the hit :-)
As if by magic I got the tap on the shoulder and left having done 12 years service and on Reuters redundancy rates.
I remember the meeting with HR letting me know I was at risk and trying to stifle my joy.
Now happily retired and watching the dramas that play out at TR and Refinitiv from the sidelines.
Has anyone else gained rather than lost through redundancy and it was something they were hoping for?
