Thread regarding SAP layoffs

Future layoffs

I agree with the previous poster that we can expect cuts and layoffs to become a new normal, both due to bad choices over years/mgmt shortsightedness and failures, and increasing consideration of short-term shareholders interests against long-term health and growth of the company. What I wonder is how much layoffs will affect workers in the US. If we can expect some kind of unraveling, we should probably start looking for other opportunities right now. When decisions are made, or mgmt finds itself falling into the black hole of layoffs as fix-all, things start happening very fast.

Germany is rated by SAP as a medium cost location.

@3mjy+1tFoFMeq you do realize that despite of the corporate BS like family, we are in this together etc. you are just a number in excel, right? When it comes to layoffs they do not look at your performance, skills etc it can be all taken over by other people or replaced in other location.

Germany isn’t considered high cost, it’s a medium cost location in SAP terms.
Israel, Singapore and the US are considered high cost.

As someone who exceeded every performance metric by every measure, and was not the highest paid team member, and the only woman on the management team, and was assured by my boss that I wouldn’t be subject to layoff, and had multiple other teams fight to retain me, then was blindsided by that meeting with my boss and HR in my calendar telling me I had 30 days to find another job or I was out, you are on your own. Nurture your network - I found a job almost instantly because of my reputation among my network. I was so naive and grateful that when I needed my network of former SAP colleagues- they came through.

The verdict is clear: more layoffs = higher stock price and happy exec board with lots of stock! Happy wins.

US and Germany are considered the two high cost locations for SAP. One has a works council and the other doesn't.

This, by itself, should tell everything we need to know as to how future layoffs will affect US based employees.

Start looking,,, if you haven't already done so.
