Thread regarding Northwestern Mutual layoffs

Who quit?

I saw a ton of people here saying they were going to quit after AIP but didn't hear of any resignations yet. Did anyone follow through?

I saw a VP in ESD was let go today, a long-time NM VP as well. It was sudden as he was scheduling office hours for Thursday just this morning. The email we received said nothing except "MM is no longer employed with Northwestern Mutual." and the temporary org structure.

If layoffs are coming, the strategic move is to wait for severance. If one is not under pressure to leave, they can wait a little while yet.

Union based employees are still waiting for their AIPs

Over 50 people quit this past week. Unknown if related to AIP or something else.

So looks like no one really quit and those claiming there would be a mass resignation are now moving the goal posts. :)

You are entitled to your opinion. But smart people who are employable were looking and had it all planned. They don't need to tell a prospective employer they are waiting for their AIP. Employers are not as stupid as you might think. It's not difficult to find out when NM pays out their AIP. Everyone has their reasons for how they handle a job search, why they leave or why they stay.

Smart people who were looking? Sounds desperate. It takes a while to find a quality employer, it takes a minute to find any employer.

I know many engineers who are interviewing but none who had jobs lined up in advance waiting on payday lmao. If you found the perfect job in advance, youre not going to risk telling your future employer youre waiting for bonus payout lest they smell your rat behavior.

I think financially responsible people would have only began looking this month. Desperate people maybe several months ago.

Really, 1 1/2 weeks? Smart people who wanted to move were looking and had jobs lined up before the AIP hit their bank account. They were just smart enough to quit once the money was deposited!

They aren't crazy. They call themselves neurodiverse.

It doesn't look like any of the "look at me I'm mentally ill" people from Slack resigned. NM has turned into a permanent asylum for these kooks.

who would already have a job lined up within 1.5 weeks?

you have to wait until we see how many resignations happen in Q2

The job market is really tough right now, especially for IT. I’m pretty sure this is why leadership has been pulling the rug from under us. They know people don’t have the same mobility they had 3 years ago when every company had a hiring frenzy

Unfortunately, whether people like it or not they’ll likely be stuck at NM until the job market improves

One in my department. Small department. But surprise, no mass exodus as many here suggested would happen.

The grass growing on top of the commons looks like cr-p, but apparently that grass is better than most.
