"I’m not going to wait for the Pendulum to swing. I’m already getting my resume out."
"he told me not to take it personal, as other people would be getting negative reviews as well."

They really are doing people dirty and now they are admitting it? Wow! The upper management obviously targeted your group for cost savings and the objective is "find x amount of people to thin out." I have been through it before twice over my career (Gen X). It's very difficult to NOT take it personally but I'm here to tell you that it really was probably a business decision. We are all headed into a nasty recession. Most won't admit it and no one wants to hear it. It sounds like you have a winner's mindset because you are getting ahead of it with a job search. It is the smartest thing to do. You don't want to do that when there's another 1,000 laid off people to compete with.

I'm sorry to say this but in the last recession, many fell through the cracks because they were in massive debt and didn't have a game plan. Once the layoffs start and there's a hiring freeze, people will end up in the "currently not interested in employment" section of the official Civilian labor force participation rate. In other words, when their unemployment runs out, they don't exist in the eyes of the government. Another thing of interest for Gen Y and Z: during the last recession, if you weren't "currently employed" you couldn't even get an interview. Ask your older friends and family. The only answer is to hustle, hustle, hustle.

A PIP is just a way to fire you for cause so you can't collect Unemployment. You also don't get severance.

That saves the company money, but sc--ws the employee.

@ikdx+1tpVtpL9

That will probably turn into a PIP.

Even if you actually did a good job, you're getting railroaded.

Start job hunting now. You've already been chosen by management to leave, and nothing you do will be good enough.

From my meeting with my manager today, I got a negative review, along with a plan of action for improvement. With everything I did since the beginning of the year, I had nothing but praise and exceeded expectations on goals.

From what he mentioned, he told me not to take it personal, as other people would be getting negative reviews as well. I thought it was a load of BS…..

The feeling I’m getting is GM is probably preparing for another twisted demented ritual of employee cuts. So, I’m not going to wait for the Pendulum to swing. I’m already getting my resume out.

It is so sad to witness what this company is doing. At the rate GM is going, either they will declare bankruptcy or some capital firms will devour the company.

As the SLT overseers are probably disgruntled from the 30% WoC survey, it would not surprise me if it does happen….

It is very empty today in the Cole.
Optional Thursdays?
There's only one way to end the productivity vacuum:

A purge followed by a five day, 8-hour mandatory RTO.

With the recent WoC survey, I wouldn’t be surprised if Arden pushes a 5 day RTO.

After the last APM with 600 million in cost savings to go before EOY, it’s more than obvious a headcount reduction is coming.

There are several fear-mongers lurking about here.
If there was something ACTUALLY happening, it would be one thing.
But this person is yelling fire in the theater. Pretty lame.

"Elon Musk is going to be smiling the first chance he gets to take over GM."

Strange take.
Elon has been super critical of GM and has enough of his own problems.

"To top things off, as we are already behind in projects, we now have more things to add to our fire to complete before the end of the year."

Historically, at the start of a downturn, many projects are cancelled. Not a big concern for upper management. They don't know who you are. They don't know what you are struggling with. They don't know or care much about you or your colleagues but they do have a list of criteria for the 10% and 5% cuts. Not complying with RTO is one of those issues, but not the #1 issue. We will see people who were rarely seen since February 2023 but will be spared the cut because they check a few DEI boxes. Count on that.

@3jnw+1tpVtpL9 is right.

There were probably some people cut/let go this week. Some twisted manager decided to make some staff engineer miserable on his return by letting him go this week.

We will have to wait and see if anything happens the next two weeks when some people start returning from shutdown.

It is really hard to say/post anything definitive here as GM is using a demented silo approach when communicating with its employees on parts of someone’s review( some things hidden from employees in workday like certain evaluation criteria that employees ask about during their reviews).

I had learned my manager had to let a good colleague and friend of mine go who was a top performer because HR told him he had a % of his group that need to be trimmed. It was very depressing and demoralizing.

To top things off, as we are already behind in projects, we now have more things to add to our fire to complete before the end of the year. Of course we will probably get some new college hires, but lately, we have been losing more time training them and getting them up to speed then we are getting things done. Not only that, some of them have a tendency to stress out, and we had like 3 quit after a few months.

Elon Musk is going to be smiling the first chance he gets to take over GM.

This is a layoff board.

No one who really knows anything is going to post here.

If someone does hear something real, they're not going to expose their sources to satisfy your curiosity.

Just consider the postings here to be rumor, speculation, and conversations about things that have already happened.

Don't take it too seriously.

No confirmation because it was fake since the day it was posted. Another chicken little.
People will defintely see layoffs soon though. I hope the people most excited about them get what they deserve.

Are you all so eager for layoffs because you enjoy seeing others lives destroyed? Or is it some kind of fear fetish?
Sometimes the spectacle you crave can end in a way you weren't expecting.
How many of you can pay your bills on unemployment? Time for a reality check.

I think your request is the point folks are making even if the way it’s said doesn’t settle well with some. What’s being claimed by the OP and some other posters is huge yet none of them have provided details of where they heard or got the information. If it is indeed true it’s appreciated they are sharing the info but I think we also know a lot of ‘fake news’ gets posted on the web these days. That being said, imo, more details on the source, how they got the info, etc are needed to provide credibility. Until that info is share I think it will be hard to have a good conversation in this forum.

It delays...
Not a single person in my department was let go this week.

Remember quiet quitting and threats to leave over RTO? I don't know of a single person that left over RTO. People love to complain about work and threaten to quit. The same people obsess over the possibility of losing their jobs.
"OMG the sky is falling!"

I think it is based on what people are getting on their mid-year reviews. Not everyone was on vacation during shutdown, so some groups decided to start cherry picking early.

From what I am hearing, managers have to lump a certain % of people in their group for ritual sacrifice for potential cuts, now and for end of year. It is based on your so called performance trending, and they really don’t have to tell you if you got a + or -(total BS).

Another thing they are doing are going after older, fatly paid high performers. The reason being the plan to replace them with like 2 new college hires with fresh minds and technology stacks.

Sad, but unfortunately true.

My colleague got let go today in IT. He was a staff system engineer that was awarded a CTT last year(a top performer).

He wasn’t even logged on for 20 minutes before he got a stupid teams meeting email.
