6 people from marketing according to Reddit.
How many started as a new employee yesterday? I assume more than 6.
A huge nothing burger.
"Heads will roll"
Ah, no. I refuse to live in fear. Get a life.

Post from TheLayoff.com

Already heard of multiple upper mgmt types being shown the door today, marketing dept and other geniuses abound. Never wish this on anyone, but karma is a b-tch! Glad I moved on a couple years ago when I saw the insanity written on the wall. Nut job tech mgrs previously brought in to clean house and create non-existent “performance issues” with long time solid employees, are now out on their own as--s. I’m sure they’ve been looking for new job ops behind the scenes with all their Apple, Meta, Dell, HP and other tech buddies, but those jobs are being down-sized too. Anyway, the 18th did result in GM layoffs to clarify. Maybe the Freep will pick up on it by Monday? Good luck folks.

Someone will come along and down-vote you, which will re-shape reality.
Then magically, scores of people will be fired for their amusement.
Down-voting is the equivalent of Dorthy walking into the land of Oz.
Reality no longer applies as long as these debt s!aves are getting a check.
It's like the gladiator's arena, only they feel invincible. Bad things will never happen to them. That is until it actually does, which many of us saw in 2008. Into the arena and out without a home or spouse when the shoe drops.

Go to faceb00k marketplace and you will see that the fire sale has already started.
But you know... Stellantis lost 50% in sales due to being "poorly managed". It has nothing to do with the 39% of Americans who can't pay their bills. Everyone can afford $80k cars from GM. I promise.

Boeing is going to do a real layoff of 17,000 employees (10% cut) to "stay competitive".
Another corporation targeting executives and managers. Another trend... kind of amusing. Where does an automotive manager go when the economy slides and there are hiring freezes? The same suppliers they once treated poorly? If not, how does that experience translate into anything else?

Even though the 18th will come and go with nothing eventful, I hope the down voters get the layoff they so desperately desire.

The WARN notices states:

"Beginning on August 19, 2024, affected employees will no longer report to work and their normal work responsibilities will cease. The affected employees may devote all of their time to job search efforts, retraining, and/or other transitional activities. The affected employees will continue to be employed until September 3, 2024, which will be their last day in the payroll system. The affected employees will receive a payment equivalent to their wages and benefits as if they were employed through October 18, 2024."

READ: IT BEGAN ON AUGUST 19. OCTOBER 18 IS THE LAST DAY THEY WILL BE PAID. THERE IS NO OCTOBER 18 LAYOFF.

I hope that clears things up for the brainless, down-voting mouth breathers.

I will re-post the link, in case it isn't clear enough:

Oct 18 is exactly 60 days after the formal WARN effective date. Is the OP recycling old news? Seems like the 18 is formal separation that was announced in August.

The truth is hard to hear for many so they just deny it and get angry at the messanger to only find out the hard way for themselves.

Given that people down-vote actual facts here, most of the posts are lacking morality and intelligence. A very different experience than Reddit.
The Layoff is like Reddit for boomers and low IQ establishment boot lickers.

Doesn't the severance policy in the employee handbook give everyone a minimum of 60 days severance in a layoff anyway?

Then they can violate WARN and just pay the 2 months severance.

WARN notices are only required if there are plans to lay off certain percentages or close entire facilities.

In lieu of WARN notice, they can pay 60 days severance.

But I think a 5 percent layoff is below the threshold.

The WARN Act:
https://uscode.house.gov/view.xhtml?path=/prelim@title29/chapter23&edition=prelim

If OP was correct, we would have seen a posting 60 days before October 18.
No such WARN message exists.
Anything said here other than calling this out as fake is essentially lacking morality, intelligence or both.

To be VERY SPECIFIC, here is the WARN notice from September 3.
Hopefully the boomers won't suspect spam.

Assuming you truly are a GM employee go back to Socrates in August when the layoffs were first announced. The announcement said there would be software folks let go and suspect that’s what the 600 and change you are seeing for Warren. The numbers in the Socrates article should match what is on the Warn website.

I do believe in karma to a point. If you really take rumors about your job posted on the web by a complete stranger, no verification of who they are or their info source serious maybe you should be let go.

Thus the popcorn because 99% of the time what folks post on here is bs

Historically GM quietly lays people off over a long period of time leading up to a big public layoff.

That way they can announce they've done a 10 percent layoff, when really 20 percent are gone.

If musk was running this company the 50% dead weight would’ve been gone long ago.

Zero strategic thinking at the helm and cr-p disposable products with lawnmower engines…put a turbo on it will make up for it. lol

Guess we’ll grab the popcorn and wait. I heard from an EGM the 5% number was mostly met already through various measures. Maybe that is different in other organizations though.

On eighteenth day of autumn's tenth month's sway,
A dire reckoning shall come, and offices gray.
The clerks of ledgers, with calculators in hand,
Shall find their duties ended, like leaves blown away.

In Detroit's heart, where engines once did roar,
A silent axe shall fall, and offices adore.
The scribes of numbers, with pens in their hand,
Shall find their paychecks dwindled, like autumn's sand.
