Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Where is the last great Sears or Kmart store, or one that stayed open past 2018??

Where is the last great Sears or Kmart store, or a great one that stayed open past 2018?? I know there are 12 Sears stores and 8 Kmart stores still in operation. And I know there were 200 locations of each that survived past 2018. But which of those locations seemed or seem more like a thriving store and still a part of the community. More like the Sears and Kmart of the 1980s or 90s before Walmart devastated them. That didn't or doesn't seem like an empty store or a going out of business sale without all the signs advertising one. That is bucking the trend and defying the odds, if there were or are any left. I think the Guam Kmart is still thriving and more like a Walmart, and I know the Grass Valley, California Kmart was still busy till they closed and is now a Target. Are the Virgin Islands Kmart still like that, and the Sears locations at El Paso, Florida Mall, Stockton, Tukwila, San Juan, Puerto Rico, Coral Gables, or Jersey City more like thriving stores that are still an integral part of the community. Or are they a store you wouldn't know still operates by looking at the outside unless you were told??

Don't bump old threads. Trolls, everywhere. Imagine the lack of a life, people must have, to be arguing about a tiny department of a store that closed Years ago. Even if it was a "store"(and it wasn't), it certainly would not be one of the best, as they didn't carry the majority of what Kmarts have. They were food, HBA, that's about it. No clothes, appliances, hardware, tools, etc..

Also, Sears wasn't "upstairs" only. Sears was the whole building, they simply had a defacto HBA department downstairs (not the whole downstairs, but just 1 corner), that they called the Kmart department of Brooklyn Sears.

And the Kmart DEPARTMENT in Brooklyn has NOTHING to do with Miami Kmart. Brooklyn department only had HBA, food, and a few other things. Miami Kmart still has all the Kmart categories (clothes, shoes, hardware, housewares, domestics, toys, etc.), that the Brooklyn department never had. Miami Kmart still has all their original categories, just in a smaller part of the building. Completely different then a small department that just had toothpaste and groceries in Brooklyn.

Yeah. No need for a loyalty card in a place with no competition.

She had nothing to do with Sears in 2018. I posted it to show that there once was a Time, when Sears was important enough to have FDR's wife at the grand opening, in 1932.

USVI Kmart’s are ok, staff was incredibly rude last time I was on St Thomas though. Strangely enough, the USVI stores don’t do SYWR (never have), same old registers, same everything, even advertisements for Sears card, just no SYWR. I’m assuming this is to preserve margin since literally everyone and their mother shops at Kmart in USVI. Orlando Sears has a nice selection.

Eleanor Roosevelt died in 1962. What does she have to do with anything after 2018?

Woops I forgot to post the link to the Eleanor Roosevelt at Brooklyn Sears story:

https://hdc.org/buildings/sears-roebuck-company-department-store/

According to that article, "It was her last public appearance before Franklin Delano Roosevelt was elected 32nd President of the United States."

Sears was a thing in the 1980's and even more so before then. Not great in any sense of the word, but they were a serviceable place to get tires changed, or get some appliances or whatever. Now they are a shell of their former selves, with a few locations that are only open due to lease obligations or whatever.

In 1932, Eleanor Roosevelt (yes, her!) was at the opening of Brooklyn Sears (which just recently closed). It was kind of a big deal then, also for quite a while, the tallest building in the World was Sears Tower in Chicago, although it no longer holds that record (and is no longer called the Sears tower anyway).

Seriously, I'm surprised there's a Sears around anymore. Haven't seen or heard of one in over a decade. Never really found anything appealing about them anyway. :(

Our Kmart became a Goodwill Industries store around 2018. So far, a much better selection, and a more helpful staff as well. Totally pleased!

Since 2018? Probably the greatest has been Kohl's for me. Wonderful staff at every store!

The Bishop California Kmart was really good. We would stop there on our way to Mammoth to stock up. The team was always really nice and helpful.

I really liked the Norridge Kmart in Illinois, near HQ. It had a nice little grocery section, and the staff were always so nice when I went there.

I've been shopping at IKEA for my home furnishings since 2018. Fantastic selection and great prices. Does anyone know if they will be expanding more in 2023?

I miss Montgomery Wards although I think they shut down before 2018. I used to purchase Tabu perfume there. Oh well, nothing lasts forever.

@1xti+1m1YSHFk Never found anything great about Sears either. Quit going in there 20 years ago. Horrible selection, poor quality, and run down. Ancient history now though.

Finding a great Kmart is like finding a great Kia. It's functional, never pretty, but was never designed to be "great". Even in the HEYDAY of Kmart (when they had over 2000 locations), probably 1980's, it was still merely functional, and was often used as a brunt of jokes by kids (Hey, where did you get those shoes, Kmart, haha?). Of course most kids wouldn't even get that reference these Days because there are only 3 stateside stores left.
TL/DR: No such thing as a great Kmart, any more than there is a "great" Kia or Mcdonalds/Burger King product. They are just functional, at best.

I've never been to Guam.............before or after 2018. Why am I supposed to care about it anyway? Kind of a d-mb question be asking people.

I have really grown to like shopping online. There are a lot of great sites to get things you could spend all day trying to find driving around.
