Thread regarding Boeing Co. layoffs

Fight for the Pension

I believe that boeing should look after the people who spend their lives building their planes. The executives pay and bonus incentives, plus all the stock buybacks are destructive and a total mismanagement of money. A much larger percentage of funds should be used to reinstate the pension, for r&d and engineering future aircraft

I don't think the union should budge. But if you all do, lower the 40% wage increase to 30% or something in between and insist on reinstatement of the pension. You do not deserve to have your retirement be determined by a dodgy 401k, which is subject to a very volatile market

Once again, with feeling @3fik+1uW7Cyc3

You had to change your local bylaws so that your international union could not step in.

Every single one of these things is a UNION problem, not a Boeing problem.

The union took a bribe, they could have reported it, but they were just as corrupt as Boeing

You voted it down, but the international stepped in and changed the vote because it was in your bylaws that they could.

This is NOT a Boeing problem. Sure they made sh---y offers, but they could not MAKE you accept them, and they did not MAKE you accept them.

Just because you don't like those facts does not make them untrue.

International sold us out with Boeing's bribe. We changed the bylaws so they can't take control of the vote any more, and we see the real numbers this time, would have seen similar percentage last time..

@3fbd+1uW7Cyc3 again, your own words...if your union leadership does not have the ethics to turn down a bribe. It seems, once again that Boeing can't MAKE you do anything.

Boeing made an OFFER (bribe) and the Union accepted.

But they are bribed by Boeing.

Maybe I am reading that wrong @3jky+1uW7Cyc3 ...but it sounds like your own union sc--wed you, not the company.

By your own words "international" showed up and it miraculously passed. Like it or not, your international reps are elected by union members not Boeing.

Nobody voted away the pension. I was a vote counter and that contract failed by more than 85 percent, but then the International showed up, took control of all the ballots and said it passed by 51 percent. Totally rigged. We used to get the ballots for a recount and won, but they wouldn't give them up and said they no longer have them. Buffenbarger flew off to the Caribbean with a suitcase full of cash and Boeing got their 9 billion dollar tax break from the state which they didn't hold up their end of the deal. What do you expect from a company run by convicted felons.

Pensions are the past. Max out those 401Ks, invest it wisely, will make the pension look pitiful in its monthly payout. Plus, unless one is an extremely important cog in Boeing's manufacturing, they'll probably get laid off 1 day short of being vested at 5 years for that pension. Seen it happen to a couple of friends at other companies.

Pentions are a thing of the past because The Boomers gave everything away. Even deprived their own generational lines that work at the same company. I guess family steeling from family is o.k.

Social security and 401k are the pension.

Most people don’t have pensions, why is Boeing special. I mean this is a company that builds fall apart planes and astronauts begging others for a ride. Ha!

"no investments put away. It is not the company's fault that you didn't put 10-20% of your income away"
Put away into what?
The stock market is a Ponzi scheme.
All you did was take advantage of everyone around you.
The older generation ran up the debt and destroyed the culture.
They preserved nothing.

@lucas-dukas I agree. A deal is a deal and the pension is gone. Anyone who wants a retro active pension is someone who made bad decisions in life and has no investments put away. It is not the company's fault that you didn't put 10-20% of your income away.

Pensions will not be available no other companies does it, plus Boeing is in that state not only because of management but also because of the workers that build cr-ppy planes, and yet want more money? Build better planes first

Forget about pensions, they're no longer available from any company or even sustainable for those that still exist these days. Rely on disciplined investing in a low-cost, no-load, mutual fund(s) as part of a traditional and/or Roth IRA and build up your retirement wealth that way instead. I got laid off 9 years ago and forced to retire at age 54, but even with zero income, no pension, and no more extra money to continue investing, I was still able to triple the value of my existing retirement fund, thanks to the strong U.S. economy and stock market. Not sure how long Social Security will last, but at least I can put that off until age 70 to max out that benefit if I'm still around.

I think running a company with 170,000 people is little more of a challenge than bucking rivets.
IAM is going to end up with another cr-p contract. Boeing will offer the same contract and union will be desperate to back to work. Boeing is digging is in. Can the union afford to go w/o money and benefits for months on end?
