Thread regarding Dell Inc. layoffs

Codeium

Why Codeium?
Sorry, not directly connected to Layoffs but more a question of who should be laid off for this stupid decision?
Does anyone know who actually decided on this POS plugin? Everyone who uses it hates it. It is less than useless and the mantra at this stage from management seems to be "it wasn't me".
Someone made a real bad move locking developers into using this terrible software for 2 years and there needs to be consequences.

@3nni+1w4CzWX7 Because huge swathes of teams are tied up in it at rr2. Theyve got a whole floor on lock. Everyone that is on the project is too chickenshit to actually tell managment that missing deadlines for 2 quarters in a row and moving the goal post for a broken idea is probably a bad idea for the new golden goose. Ive only adjacently heard about it from people in the hall, but godda-n I wish some of yall would speak up instead of just cutting a paycheck. I get it, fight the man, but sh-t don't knowingly play sisyphus here.

How would anyone give feedback to management? Project M is top secret ND-double-A. None of us know about their plan to lay us all off ;-)

@2kvd+1w4CzWX7 Lol everything Ive heard about "maverick" makes it sound like an absolute clusterf**k. How the he-l does having everything be broken appeal to so such a slow moving giant?? Please raise these concerns to management because this project sounds like another huge waste of time like apex

The person mentioning Intellectual Property is the one argument used against cloud based AI solutions though I have yet to see a major cyber incident on any company that has Enterprise solutions with OpenAI, anthropic, or Google.

I kind of use cursor out of my own pocket, enable private mode and just keep my mouth shut.

I've been using it since 2023 and we're almost in 2025 now. No one has said anything. My productivity is 3x and I do the responsible thing where I just put dummy values instead of Dell proprietary information and then feed that code. It's painful in that you have to have an eye for which is sensitive and which isn't but still 3x productivity for 20$ a month is pretty sweet.

Cost, cost, cost. Project Maverick will upend all systems and tools across the company, reducing the cost of external licensing costs.
Everything will broken (on purpose) so that they can be built up again bit by bit in the Dell image.
This company is going to be going through a root and branch strategic alignment in the next 2 years. There appears to be a plan (!) and it’ll get rougher before it settles down. The WFRs from the past 18 months are indicative of this.

The hilarious thing is windsurf is now a thing from codeium and its actually really good. When pushed when we will be getting this the id--ts in IT said no cause its a saas even though the writing is in the wall for the codeium plugin as windsurf will be their main focus so we are now stuck with codeiums aftetthaught.

We are being pushed to use these tools for coding and writing test cases. I can't tell you how much we are being pushed.

Your lazy b-ms should be fired, that's what I tell you.. I do not care about innovation and productivity.

There are all kinds of opaque reasons they keep shoving expensive vendor sh-t down our throats. Yeah cost is part of it. But it may just be funny money because of some backroom deal about who golfs with whom. Regardless, someone high up must make money on this cr-p because they always push it so hard even despite evaluations that say it su-ks. But there are never told you sos and never consequences for the ones pushing dud after dud. I guess we should just take heart that they know better than us and leave it to the “experts “.

I think if you need to use programming “AI” tools you should try a different profession.

Talk to Jeff Clark. He doesn’t want to use cloud based tools. However if you’re really that big an id10t you’d have to realize it’s about intellectual property. You’re putting your IP at risk. It’s not about tools. Man, do we have some stupid people who work here across the board from management throughout.

Cost. 100% cost related meaning it was the cheapest option. Then they went and made it onsite which then made it even worst.

More AI mentions. Need AI mentions.

I think the person responsible for bringing it in has since left the company for personal ventures. In the meantime, we get emails showing our usage of it. I still use ChatGPT, it is much better.

Because it is on-premise and useless vs cloud based and useful. And someone somewhere with clout in ISG despises Microsoft for reasons unknown but probably can be identified by their gratuitous use of M$. Maybe they were hit by a flying chair once (deservedly so but they don’t know that).
