Thread regarding Sabre Holdings layoffs

Talent Drain

Planned or Unplanned. It doesn't really matter. It's absolutely incredible to see the talent drain Sabre is experiencing right now.
The actions of the last few months have sent people running for the exits, some in an organized fashion through vol sev's and vol retirements, some through furloughs (whom have now found other jobs). some who weren't furloughed but found another job anyway. The number of exits is just mind-boggling. To the point that I honestly don't know how this company is going to keep operations running. Not because of financial issues, but because of the knowledge that has left (or is planning on leaving in the next few weeks). What an amazingly deep hole Sabre has dig itself into. I don't comment on this board often, but for those out there that said Sabre is positioned well. You just don't understand all of the "who" that has left. and how could you ? I know lots of the furloughed people didn't even tell Sabre they left yet. No one has been in the dfw offices in months, most people don't know who's gone, who's here except for in their own little org.
Good luck out there !

I have a better suggestion: if what Sabre does is so easy, start your own company. Either in Krakow or India. I'm sure that with a couple weeks fast coding you can replace all systems and make millions and displace Sabre from the market. That has been proven a success by so many other tech companies that have enter the market in the last 20 years (that last line was sarcasm in case you need a clue).

Unfortunately our products are over-complexedand poorly documented, so they are a nightmare to maintain and to gain knowledge. So just a few weeks of knowledge transfer are unreachable. In normal company - yes - that schould be achievable, but for our bloated monstrosities. Nope. Not gonna happen...

To anyone saying that it's a few weeks effort to be proficient at any role at Sabre, I have one suggestion- start participating in calls with our customers and you will see what level of detail and expertise they are seeking for. Sabre is so much more complex than just creating a basic PNR in a GUI and those talented and experienced people we've lost cannot be just replaced from one day to another.

2-3 weeks is sufficient for the majority of tech roles. Replacement of more demanding position takes, let's say, 6-8 weeks. Still counts as "a few".

I agree. You can replace anyone in three weeks. You wont have any gaps at all. It's just a gui right ? I can tell your opinion is highly valued at Sabre. Leadership obviously agrees with you because thats the strategy they rolled out !

Doesn't matter much to me. I got my payout in one hand, popcorn in the other and a big fat smile hoping you succeed.
Good Luck !

Dear tech gurus & businessmen - I am sorry to say that, but your positions are effortlessly replaceble.

Yes.... but not "common Sense" ... i have seen before and after

This is right. Technically Sabre products are easy and quick to learn. Only complicated things here are organizational and communication chaos, lack of documentation and a lot of redundancy in Sabre's product portfolio.

@2klz+15c9y1gc:
if you think that something as complex as the airline industry (in any aspect, being infrastructure, architecture, code, business analysis, marketing or strategy) can be learned in a few weeks just means that you are a newbie or dumb or both.

Newcomers can easily be trained "how", "why", "what" and "where" in a few weeks, even without a formal handover.
The company will be fine.

Totally agree. A lot of us have left and found new jobs. However, there are a few good ones left and please give them the credit they deserve. What I find sad is that the people who made the decisions on the furloughs had no knowledge of who was pertinent to keep the lights on and who wasn't. They made their decisions without asking middle management whom they needed. Shame on them. They also made it based on whom they liked and whom they didn't. If you had a mind and try to speak to make things better instead of being a puppet, you were let go.

Everything happens for a reason and we will be better off for it, but will Sabre?

Covid-19 is not done yet. Chain reaction is on its way and it will affect ALL industries. Doesnt matter how much money eu and us will put in the market the financial damage will be huge to think of brain drain. Companies look for survival. Come on, even recruiters and hr heads are getting laid off from hays and other huge recruitment agencies. History teaches that survival games do not have strict and define strategies over humans, at least in europe. Be all strong we will survive it. Just blame the media and governments for overreacting

I couldn't agree with you more and under normal circumstances you would never allow this this brain drain to happen. Some of Sabre,s best employees wont be coming back. To be honest, those that are leaving who are on furlough, why would they tell the company? The company decided they were not needed for two months which sends a powerful message.
