Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

Sinking ship

SLT only cares about their own interests. They will su-k the company dry as they’ve done before. They all protect each other to survive and thrive. If you are not part of the elite club you are meaningless to them. Sheeps will never understand this concept. They think the SLT team is worthy and capable and ask them obvious questions at town hall mtgs expecting them to save us all. I say boycott all town hall mtgs and send them a message.

Ford loses $132,000 for every EV sold.
GM likely has a similar problem.
Zero zero zero is simply not going to happen.

Speaking of sinking ships, what are the new programs at GM? I don't know of any. It seems the hammer could fall any day now.

The auto industry is cyclical.
"Sinking ship" is relative to the time frame you are in.
Where are you now? How busy are you at work? What is morale like? Do you know about any upcoming projects? Are people you know showing up to work? Do people seem worried to you? I think you know what is about to happen. If you disagree, share your opinions!
Beyond that, what are your competitors doing right now? Are they cutting back?
Do you know the auto industry sales figures? What are the stock prices for auto industry stocks like? Interest rates? Repossession rates? Auto insurance stats? How indebted is the American consumer? You can get a good glimpse into the future if you look at this information.

When I see people at work with a mask, they are non-human NPCs. I will not interact with them because they are mentally ill.
COVID never went away. Most of us don't social distance or wear a face diaper and we are fit and happy.

Rats aren't fleeing because there's nowhere for them to go. No one wants them and they know this is the only place they belong.

If the ship was sinking, we would have witnessed rats fleeing.
But the rats are nestled safely in the hull.

I bet every company has a really nice page of their leadership team that talks about their effectiveness. I bet even Enron or LB's page also looked like this before they went belly up. They are suppose to be like that. Again, it's all perception, not reality.

The reality is: employees morale is super low, a lot of them are itching for another VSP, a lot of leaders are in positions where they don't belong at all and got their because of buddy buddy system. It's easy to do lip service sitting at the top, but reality happens down below, way down below and these guys have no idea about it.

as for bottom line numbers being good, sure they are good buddy and that's due to ICE vehicles and nice designs, but what innovation has really happened in vehicles compared to what China is doing? I have been hearing about 0-0-0 for many years and reality is we are very far from it. the transformation happening is real though, but not happening in a way that results in a positive outcome.

Your reality is short sighted.

“ Just because they came from cali doesn't make them rockstars.”

You must be young and naive. Reality is they have brought in senior people who have no automotive experience and don't understand this sector and the culture. Just because they came from cali doesn't make them rockstars. They have created more chaos than ever before and some have already left after a very short period, so that speaks volumes by itself on that decision, employees moral is all time low because of too much churn, they have poured billions chasing EV due to FOMO and now they will most likely scale back just like Ford recently announced, all this will result in more layoffs because that's the easy button for them

is that enough elaboration for you? transformation can be good, but only if right people are behind it.

You can still do choice 1 without doing the bare minimum but it can be hard. Especially if you really disagree with a company’s direction. Been there. That’s why I suggested option 2. It’s much easier to perform at a higher level if you are passionate about a job and can stand behind the corporate objectives. Give the labor market some time. It never stays in one place and will eventually present with more opportunities.

choice 1 is what most people are doing anyways. the bare minimum. choice 2 is very tough in current market condition.

Eh, to your point though there are too many sheep so imo boycotting is a noble cause but the sheep won’t do it. That leaves you with a couple choices 1) go along to get along or 2) find another job on the outside. Lots of other places out there and over heard stories of folks getting paid well when leaving.
