So many older folks keep complaining to me about getting interviews but never receiving offers because of "age discrimination." Here's the thing. There's a reason for it and it's not age. Things have changed since some of you have last interviewed. You can't expect to approach this with the same attitude you did two decades ago and expect the same results. You need to present yourself in a way that aligns with today's job market to increase your chances of success. Otherwise, good luck in wasting your time.

There is an industry wide moritorium on hiring former Intel employees. Having Intel on your resume isn’t the flex you think it is. In fact it’s actually significantly hurting your chances. Why would anywhere else hire people -the same people - who destroyed an American institution? So their own companies can fall to same fate?
As an Intel employee, my resume speaks for itself. I don't need interviewing skills. Jobs are easy. NVidia and AMD love hiring Intel people.
F interviewing ! Buy a landscape truck and trailer and trim trees ! More contract money and an independent living ! $300 a two hour session x 4 sessions x 3 -4 days a week !
its not hard if u have the right attitude...
Does the advice on shaving apply to women as well?
Your beginning statement mentioned about old folks so it is definitely age related issue. If younger people got interviewed and refused to be hired because of their young age, you also discriminate them.
It's age. Ditto to the above response that says, "you'll find out one day". Everyone knows age discrimination exists. And yet employers are allowed to continue without repercussions. OTOH, yes, interviewing has changed. If you haven't interviewed for awhile, ensure that your video interviewing skills are up to par (e.g, room lighting, eye height, look at the camera so that your eyes are open/not looking down at your device, etc.) and practice using a STAR, PSA, or whatever acronym you want to use and be brief -- under one minute when responding. Do not carry on. if the interviewer wants to ask you more questions, they will. Use the desired job description/role against your own accomplishments to practice interviewing using the aforementioned method. And yes, all you need to do is look at news articles. Tech jobs are competitive. Employers are looking for the exact fit. Wishing good news for all that have been impacted especially the mature workers.
It's not age discrimination. The tech job market just su-ks right now. Everyone is getting fewer offers, not just older folk.
Send the interviewer a picture of your junk. That's what kidz do these days.
This is called age discrimination.
OP said "Here's the thing" That's Corporate Phrasing. Life tip: Please disregard any and all words after identified Corporate Phrasing
It’s age. You will find out some day.
What the OP say's it's true. Let's say your 59yo and looking for a tech job, why would anyone hire you, when they might only get 3-4 years out of year, before you start to break down. You're competing with a mid-career ladder climber for the same job. So you need to differentiate yourself. Shave before the interview and don't start off with small talk about 70's rock.
There is a much simpler answer to why this happening and it has nothing to do with age but rather everything to do with having the word “Intel” at the top of our resumes
As an "older folk", I am just going to be myself and make my case why I think I am good fit for the position.
I will also ask job related questions so I can determine whether or not I really want that job at that company.
If if works out then great! Otherwise, I will simply move on and keep looking.
It is definitely age. The people interviewing you are 20 or 30 yr old folks
Tips on how to do that?
And you are? ...
