Thread regarding Cengage layoffs

Deep Thoughts by MH

They laid off all K-12 inside sales people in 2022 and rehired in 2023 bc they could pay new people less salary/hourly wages…

"I have never seen a work culture destroyed so quickly or thoroughly as Cengage has managed to do." Same observation here. So dissapointed.

Your overconfidence will betray you. Watch them.

I wonder if IPS uses the name "Michael" when he puts his name at restaurants and then assumes accent, mannerisms, ordering of fine wine, etc, throughout the dinner.

Please say yes!

"interesting take, as entire departments are being offshored to India and Mexico. "

You forgot the Philippines. Customer Service is slowly being off shored to the Philippines. At some point all of it will be in the Philippines. Only the Distribution Center is safe from offshoring. Further Gale cuts are also in the pipeline. Additional Sales cuts are still expected as are cuts in the bloated middle management structure in all departments. Cengage is a sinking ship. All are encouraged to update your resumes.

I’ve never worked at Cengage (thank God I left Thomson prior to the sale.) I can’t remember how i stumbled onto this site but I am addicted to IPS takes.

It’s like SNL assigned a writer to provide comic relief to an irrelevant company in an irrelevant business. That in itself is comedy genius!

@2ldb+1slBnatD,
"IPS" (in this thread @1zjy+1slBnatD) is hitting the trifecta of imitating, paraphrasing, and parodying MH, so be sure to read IPS's "interesting take" (as you refer to it) as such. It's the IPS posts that keep me coming here. They're better than clever.

@1zjy+1slBnatD interesting take, as entire departments are being offshored to India and Mexico.

Greetings,

Cengage attracts and retains the best and brightest, like its contemporaries in other sectors, such as Apple. Google, and Amazon.

Cengage is a leading EdTech company that has set a benchmark in transforming the education and technology verticals. Not only have weintroduced innovative initiatives like Cengage Unlimited and Project Horizon that have brought prosperity to the global community while saving students millions of dollars, but the leadership team's ability to redefine its own space within the technology and education verticals has increased scaleability and diversity by partnering with developing nations.

Let me be clear, our work is not easy but we will continue to disrupt, innovate, and succeed!

Its easy to convince employees who are almost all fans of education that they are "making a difference."

They are not. Publishers are universally hated by students (customers) and used by Professors.

I mean, he's right that when I first came on I was, possibly for the first time ever, excited to work somewhere. The culture was strong, morale was high, there was good perks, I believed in the company's goals, the pay was never really great enough to say it was the main driver for why I chose to start working here.

He's wrong in believing any of that zeal is left. Between wave after wave after wave of layoffs, reorganizations and erosion of perks/benefits, the enthusiasm's gone, I haven't been excited to wake up and go to work in 10 months. Honestly a round of applause is owed for leadership-I have never seen a work culture destroyed so quickly or thoroughly as Cengage has managed to do.
