Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

**A Message of Appreciation and Clear Expectations**

Dear General Motors Employees,

As we approach the new year, I want to take a moment to express my
gratitude to each and every one of you for your enthusiasm in embracing
our return to a five-day workweek. We're excited to bring everyone back
together in person, fostering greater collaboration, innovation, and
camaraderie.

To ensure a smooth transition, please note the following guidelines:

  • If you have a doctor's appointment or other important event, you can

schedule a maximum of two days per week with your manager to accommodate
these commitments. Please discuss your needs with your manager well in
advance.

  • Otherwise, we expect all employees to be in the office during core

hours: Monday through Friday from 9:00am to 3:00pm.

Our official rollout for the five-day workweek will take place on January
4, 2025. We're confident that this new schedule will enhance our team's
productivity and overall well-being.

If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to reach out
to your manager or HR representative. We're always here to support your
success and growth at General Motors.

Thank you again for your understanding and cooperation as we embark on
this new chapter together.

HR doesn't care if you were treated unfairly.

They only care if you have legal grounds for a lawsuit.

Discriminating against protected groups is a problem for them.

Except age discrimination lawsuits. They always win those.

In court they claim they weren't practicing age discrimination, it's just that 50 year olds make more money than 25 year olds, so it was just an economic decision.

And they always win.

It's like redlining... Discriminating against people who live in particular zip codes. It's not about race, it's just about geography. Nothing nefarious going on, nope 🤣

If they want to get rid of you, they'll railroad you out whether they have a reason or not.

Legally, they don't need a reason, but they like to have something to smear you with for your former colleagues.

Declared a malcontent and not a team player.

No one's going to check your badge data and that other stuff unless someone complains about you, like your boss.

Assigned seating and noticing if there are butts in seats makes that more likely if people aren't coming in.

You will be given a small token, such as a GM pen or flashlight, for your SUFS submission and then be assigned as the responsible party to fix your concern AND be placed on the layoff list.

Right! If you are out of sight, you aren't a team player. Do you want to be on that list?
That aside, no one is actually hiding. We can see your badge data and your IP address. We can see your desktop too. We can also detect who's using a mouse jiggler. Expect all of these things to be factors in making 'the choice'.

A five-day work week will accelerate all of this. You will be expected to be in your seat. People will notice and they will keep tabs on you.

Assigned seating with the rest of your team means everyone knows if you're in the office or not.

With no assigned seats in an open plan office, you could claim you're on another floor or a different building when you're really at home.

I'm looking forward to the change.
Some believe we will be packed like sardines. I believe in the contrary.
Between a decent mass layoff and the folks who retire out of discomfort, there will be plenty of open parking spots in the parking deck.
Also, this change will expose all of the scammers. The people who aren't at their desk will be known to everyone. Goodbye, good riddance. I'm tired of carrying dead weight.
I'm either working at my desk at home or the open seating at work. What's the difference other than the drive? I can take it. It will weed out the weak. I say BRING IT ON!

That's what Mary wants.

Anything to make people quit without severance.

That will be the final nudge to put me into retirement.

Definitely, more cuts coming.

I don’t blame people who quit to refuse to work in packed clown cars.

They are so going to run out of building space.

It will be so wonderful to have everyone back. This way they can monitor when you swipe in and out and use that against you for the next lay off.

HR and speak up for safety are there to protect the company, not the employees.
