being sold on how the company never lays off and has a fun, innovative culture and not bean counting like Amazon or Microsoft.

And stocks always rise, you never lose money on real estate and perpetual motion machines are REAL!

Come on ... what fantasy land are you living in?

Did they get rid of only the 6% bottom performers? No. They got rid of many new employees and tenured employees that had been recently promoted.

Layoffs aren't necessarily about getting rid of the "5"s; they're about eliminating folks/positions that won't be missed.

I'm often reminded of the 3 best pieces of advice given me:
(1) If you don't do what your boss asks, you'll be fired
(2) If you ONLY do what your boss asks, you'll probably be fired.
(3) If you volunteer for tasks no one else wants to do, you probably won't be fired.

@5ept+1lHN7UcY I suddenly I have an urge to sing "I WANT MY MV TEEEE-VEEEE!"

But you're probably too young to get the reference. ;-)

@5ept+1lHN7UcY Empathy? I should feel sorry for these sn-t-nose millenials and gen-Zers pulling down $500k TCOs while I'm pulling down a third- to half that doing a real job without all the silly "massage therapists", and without all the "psychological safety" bollocks? That empathy?

How about having some fking empathy? People joined because of great offers and being sold on how the company never lays off and has a fun, innovative culture and not bean counting like Amazon or Microsoft. The new performance system was also set up to let go of low performers because there legacy employees who probably took advantage of rest and vest.

Team match is a good way to filter out americans who pass the tech interview.

@3xaq+1lHN7UcY ah yup! Speaking of "treating gardeners" right. Several "woke" cities in the Bay Area recently passed bans on gas-operated leaf-blowers etc. and CA even went so far as to ban the sale of new gas-powered equipment.

I guess these "woke" folks now expect their gardeners to rake by hand. But of course will cry bloody mu---r when the rates go from $100/month to $1000/month.

The hypocrisy ....

Do the employees who raise voices treat their gardeners, cleaners and service contractors the same way? Did the same people pay their gardeners or cleaners during the lockdown? Surely with 150K+ salary the employees can afford to pay the 150-200 monthly for the people whose service they rely, right ? One rule for oneself, another rule for everyone else.

"I couldn't believe it when a friend at Cisco told me how badly they were treated in December. Then a month later Google did the same thing to me!!! What is this world coming to when large tech tries to pretend employees are valued and important and then treat us like this? Too bad being a corporate jerk is legal or there would be class action lawsuits everywhere! Everyone knows this is wrong, yet corporately it has become the norm. When is a large Tech company like Google, Microsoft, Cisco, or Twitter going to stand up and say what we did is wrong? The bigger they become, the more evil they become. Wake up corporate America, your company culture and values are going down the toilet!"

dude, 2M employees were fired in 2001 during the dotcom bust. What makes you special ?

@3bus+1lHN7UcY, hold out both hands, I will sh-t in one hand, and in the other I will pour happy platitudes about how employees are valued and important. See which one fills quicker.

Don't know how many times you've been around the block, but here's some advice: you work for "your-name-here" Inc. You are CEO, President and Chairman of the Board. You are beholden to only yourself, your family and your loved ones. Your value-in-trade is your time and skills. That's it! Act that way!

Entitled visa holders don't understand how a company who hired them ( or contracted them via ICCs) in lieu of American citizens to save money, now lays them off without thinking how it will effect their lives...

The sooner these folks realize they are merely a number, that they trade their time and skills for money, no more ... the sooner they can get on with their lives. They are not valued contributors nor are they members of a family.

"Demands" and "employee voices"? Really? They are at-will employees. While they are employed they are entitled to a regular paycheck, and vis-a-versa. Nothing more and nothing less.
