So why are you here looking back?

I left UP in July. One of the big differences I noticed at orientation with the new job was the company gave HR the authority to actually DO SOMETHING about turnover and talent retention. I was able to have ACTUAL CONVERSATIONS with my supervisors that very seldom ended with "well I don't know, that's what Omaha wants us to do, so that's how we're going to proceed." When you have an entire leadership structure that is powerless to use their own ideas and authority to try to make a better place to work, you get people who leave and never look back.

The restructuring was only done after the ceo went to Wall Street and they said no this is what we expect from your company, cue the push to run PSR even after he said to the employees about not running it multiple times. This company made it thru the collapse in 08 and didn’t do near as much damage as the current leadership did. Sure there were layoffs but not to the scale that we are seeing now. Safety never took a backseat like it is now, they realized they still had to maintain their rails, cars, and locomotives and they did it, did they store locomotives sure but they didn’t pull this BS of ATR and run everything into the dirt. Look for them to top the chart next year as well because they are ignoring the signs and continue to only hire college grads with no idea what the industry is and ignore the workers that currently know what needs to be done to correct their current mistakes.

This is, in fact, the worst place to work.

Talk about one-sided! LOL! And by the way, it is “you’re” posting not “your” posting.

@3btc Evaluate the whys? Are you kidding me? The morale has been low for a very long time, and has continued the downward trend for the last couple years. PSR was just another nail in the coffin for them. Who's the employees that actually like what the UP is doing? Please share that info with the rest of us. Yes, being laid off is no fun. If you actually have factual information then you'd know the UP was doing very well before PSR. Remember the record profits the CEO bragged about when he started the PSR sh1tshow? Remember when the CEO said he would not be doing PSR, because he said it seemed to only benefit the shareholders? If your posting record profits, then WHY lay people off? If your posting record profits, then WHY restructure? Here's what is relevant. The CEO lied to the employees about PSR. People have every right to be p-ss-d at the UP for being laid off. Some of those people quit other jobs to go to the UP, only to be told they are being laid off when their training is done. These are the same people that can't go back their old jobs. So do you think the reviews are still irrelevant? WHY train people, if all you're going to do is lay them off? You're debating whether or not their title is justified. I think YOU need to reevaluate your argument, so its not so one-sided. What the UP is doing is not justified. Therefore the title they earned is justified. The executive team had a choice. PSR was a choice, not a requirement.

Well said. Some have even admitted they can can do what it took 10 people to do.

I think you need to re-evaluate the whys? Of getting worst employer. Long hours/weekend work which is a given in any transportation industry. Lay offs? Restructuring? Are those really reasons to be a “worst employer”? Yeah they s—, but all companies eventually in their lifetimes have to restructure and change course sometimes multiple times to remain relevant. When you have a bunch of disgruntled people give ratings on “Glass door” because they don’t like the restructuring of the company, to me that isn’t a relevant rating to begin with. There are many employees that agree with the direction this company is headed and it needed to be done, it is not always pretty but it is what it is. It certainly doesn’t make the company the worst company to work for in my eyes but it’s what grabs attention, headlines etc. Change s—s and people fight it every step of the way but you need to evolve and it is unfortunate people get laid off in the process but just because you got laid off or actually now have to work your job instead of sleeping in a hidey-hole or taking a 45 min p–p, doesn’t make a company the worst to work for.

Let’s try to go for a 3-peat, worst employer in 2021! Come on Fritz, we can do it!

It's funny that the UP wasn't the only class 1 on the list now. What's not surprising is that the 3 class 1's listed are all doing doing PSR aggressively. I just saw an article about NS closing a yard in Chicago. The freight from that yard went to the trucks according to the article. HEY UP EXECUTIVES, I THINK IT'S TIME TO WAKE UP NOW. You better get your sh1t together, move the freight, or the trucks will! Do you really think the PSR plan is still a good idea now? I'm just sitting back and laughing. The UP got the #1 spot last year for worst employer. I unfortunately believed they would at least try to better their rating somehow. The only difference now is that the UP has stiff competition for this next year. I sure hope those executives are proud.

No wonder we’re the worst. We hire generations of railroaders. Doubt half of the employees could handle a job in another field. Your dad uncle grandpa cousin probably told you it’s the easiest job in the world I can do nothing all day and get paid. Then the railroad figured out how lazy everyone and cut cut cut. Here we are 14k later car loading ls above 160k and about to produce our best year ever with UPS.

Way to go U.P!!! #1, that's something to be proud of. The executive team should give themselves a big part on the back. Better strive for holding on to that #1 spot!!! Don't let anyone be worse than you.

The execs are not embarrassed, they are all getting very rich. They could care less about these ratings. The only thing the care about are profits and shareholder wealth.

Well with the current ranking I would assume the employee surveys should go by the wayside. Good grief how pathetic the execs should be embarrassed.

Reality is courage to care less by management is an endless funnel. Poorest field management that are followers not leaders waiting to get wacked. Psr financial basics to efficiency is basic corporate right sizing,. Nobody’s fault that UPRR GOT FAT AND SASSY. But to bring outside folks in to implement PSR makes the Exec Staff look like extremely high paid gutless wonders. All should be replaced but won’t be due to Psr shareholder success. Merry Christmas to all !

Not surprising. People furloughed coming back and jumping ship, those who weren’t furloughed leaving as well, company is a raging dumpster fire with people in charge that have no clue. expect the puff pieces to start flying soon because they have to combat the bad press.
