Anyone else from BP recently denied severance benefits after the layoff citing Code of Conduct violation? Looking to connect and understand how widespread this is

@3a1 Oh yeah, seems pretty familiar. Take people's hard earned benefits so other can get compensated. Nothing new. Some said correctly they will we-ponize policies to save anything.
If you need a document (few to few dozen pages) just print it....this cannot be blocked and ensure you have a reason of why you did print it on that day....may be mark it up for gradual improvements or so....
Bp has a history of layoff people few days short of retirement to deny medical retiree benefits, etc. nothing new in bp regardless of business unit or function. ONE TEAM!
Was this a recent transfer or did they go back into your past?
@pq there is a procedure posted on an IT page for the proper way to transfer personal files off of a company computer. You can use this procedure for moving CV, personal photos, etc. A work process or way of working doc is company IP and shouldn’t be transferred without explicit review and permission.
Hi just randomly came across this post. im in the process of leaving and clearing my laptop of personal doc ie: CV, photos etc and within that file were some doc i worked on which were processes i created like ways of working - would i get into trouble of transferring this to my personal email? is there anything i can do to mitigate any issues in future?

Code and intellectual work are usually company assets. Even if it's not confidential, using it without permission can go against company policy. It's better to describe your role and impact without sharing actual code.
I always thought that you could have access to some work samples to use when you get laid off, so you can show work proficiency to prospective employers. I mean as long as it doesn’t expose confidential information to a competitor. Am I mistaken?
Not going to try to defend corporate greed but are you guys seriously transferring “files” from bp property into your email or cloud drives?

It’s disheartening when policy gets WE-PONIZED? Are you kidding me? Anyone with half a braincell should’ve known they’d be watching this stuff. They have blocked access to personal email - for this very reason. Read the room and don’t do stupid things.
So you effed up and got caught. If it is in written in the policy it will for damn sure be used in your termination proceeding to stop you getting paid. Never ever use corp assets for personal stuff. And sending stuff from corp email to personal email that was a rookie move for sure. Expensive lesson to learn
Seeing multiple good folks impacted in similar ways. It’s disheartening when policy gets we-ponized during layoffs. Hope others dealing with this are hanging in there. Companies owe people better.
@dw this is true. BP is using the Purview extension for Edge and Chrome browsers which allows them to collect data on which files are downloaded and where they are uploaded to. This allows them to outright block uploads to personal cloud storage for instance. The data collected is used in Microsoft‘s DLP (data loss prevention) and with AI, they can detect unusual activity such as certain external emails, which then can be flagged for risk. It is possible (but I don’t know if BP do it) to connect an HR system to provide greater scrutiny on employees who are working notice. Assume that if you are using a bp machine, every action is being logged.
@b4 they are monitoring emails in the UK too. Emails suspected of containing bp info will be flagged to your line manager.
How did they inform you? I’m curious - have you already left Bp or are you in the process of exiting? I’m sorry - that su-ks.
They had issues in GoM a long time ago so they started tracking external sharing..it's against policy so you probably don't have a leg to stand on if you're in the US
Did you transfer the files long time ago or after was giving notice? Asking for a friend 😀
@a6 It was a digital policy issue — transferring work-related files externally. No sensitive or client data involved, but BP flagged it and revoked my severance. I’ve since heard of others facing similar issues and would love to compare notes if anyone’s open to it
@OP I am sorry! What did they accuse you of doing? I have heard of things like happening in the past.
