Let the Hunger Games begin!

@3e9 Gloating, apparently.
I am wondering why people are getting promoted from the Director level to VP when the budget is tight (in GPC, for example), and quality is being downgraded due to role eliminations.
@39j - Well, the rating went down from 3.2 to 3.1
@3e9 still have friends and checking chaos.
@3e8 - Not sure what you're doing on this site if you've already left?
You all deserve what you are getting for not packing up and leaving the Apollo je-ks. It is sad, however, that a once positive culture was decimated due to greed. I am less stressed and make more money since leaving this dysfunctional cesspool. Took a while to get the gig I wanted, but life after a decade at Cengage is pretty cool.
Kool-aid is in the Global Prod TownHall
@39h more fake news
@39f the real cherry on top of this mountanous sh-t muffin of a cake is that HR STILL have 'Glass Doors Best Places to Work 2024' in their email signatures....
@358 - A manager of Software Engineering is also out. I guess System Engineering and Software Engineering are under attack now.
@35r - Can you share which roles have been affected?
Remember when we had a screen background thrust upon us when apparently we were the Glassdoor winner? I reckon we all know who the troll is
@34w says the bold poster from the same anonymous post. Quite bold of you. Don’t worry, you will be snuffed out soon enough. Then the constant pain of getting a pay check from an employer you hate will dissipate.
It’s the ones who are left who I feel sorry for, there is no plan
@369 can you hint at what area of sales?
@35r wow we are usually informed about changes made to GCP. I guess we will hear about it later.
Now they arefu--ing with sales!
@322 no one is safe. The people who they brought in to swing the axe will be shocked when they get it a year from now. MH is the only constant. He hires, fires and somehow manages to dodge the bullet himself, but he is behind the constant swings in direction. Today its workforce skills, First it was Cengage unlimited...that's all anyone ever talked about....then the McGraw merger....then workforce skills and all the other business units were to support that....then it was K12 which boomed post covid, when that ran out of steam.... Apollo and the offshoring massacres while they took massive quarterly dividends...3 CFOs 4 EVPs of Higher Ed? SVPs of product..3VPs of sales? How many Marketing VPs? now its "work Force Skills...same movie, just different people doing leadership streams from conferences. MH went from taking the business into chapter 11, to pontificating about going to Davos (the ego on the guy is insane!), to Prada belts..."Netflix for Textbooks!.......all the while a bonfire of vanities . MH and his ever changing circle of stooges ( none too bright), constantly churn and fail and move on to the next thing. Apollo does what it does. Its playbook is documented. ...buy up distressed debt,....convert to equity cut to the bone , dress up the corpse, extract all the value left and move on to the next target for destruction. MH has hitched himself to that wagon and is, I'm sure counting the days until he gets a payoff and can slope off. His farewell linked in post saying how proud he was of his time at Cengage, but time to pass the baton, will be a tear je-ker. So, @322....its out of your hands ...
@35r more chum in the ocean…
@33c+1kn3x05m6 - you're a bully. Get off this site.
Four people let go in GCP today: 3 from Thorndike, 1 from ELT
@33c ive seen your type before…puffed up chest, obviously one of the latest “winners in the hunger games. Problem is ( for you) this movie has cycled many times. Today’s winners on the food chain are tomorrow’s breakfast. There have been too many of you to count over the past 5 years. MH raises you, then discards you for sport and distraction from the fact that there is no overall strategy. They're trying to catch falling knives and praying for the IPO so they can cash in their chips . Enjoy your time in the sun Mr /Ms Big-shot. You folks always get the bullet when you're no longer useful
@2ed - Also a Sr director of Software Engineering.
@33c MH??
Is that you????
@33c so which leadership team member are you? You’re obviously feeling bold behind that anonymous comments, be real with people for once. Say it with your whole chest and real name. Give it a try, buddy.
@323 cry me a river…. Do your job and stop complaining or get out of the company. It’s that simple. Companies are here to make money, not cater to your whining.
@322 i hear you. there's a lot of anger and shock on this board and I guess it all boils down to the feeling of helplessness. I feel really sorry to the people who gave 20 or 30 years to the company only to be tossed aside. I fully expect to go at some point but need to hang on for as long as I can for the family medical insurance coverage. I havent been here long enough to get much of a severance. we all saw this coming when MH flipped to Mr High flying, white house visiting, linkedin posting shark. The fact many of us bought into the Mr DEI act of a couple of years ago (think first Fridays cooking with people of color) makes us feel incredibly stupid. I'll never drink the Kool Aid again!
Its crazy. They seem to be erasing Gale from the company despite the academic group having a good year.High achievers smoked after they brought home the money at year end. ELT is in free fall especially in Asia, yet these folks survive and are promoted..it feels like chaos but every round of these disruptions have felt the same I guess. I'm not sure of my own fate though I sense i will go in this or the next round. There isnt any leadership like their used to be. the people making decisions feel remote and i fell like a piece on a chess board. im worried as the job market is pretty tough and i have kids and a mortgage. everyone has a similar situation I imagine. I think the feeling that its all so random and decisions objectively just appear like pre IPO cost cutting with no thought to a year down the road. Things feel pretty bleak and none of us are able to do anything to keep our jobs safe. If they fire the person who saved the overall Cengage Asian number, what hope do I have?
@2y7 ha. I promise you, in international we have all seen what has been happening in the US. It has very much been on our minds!
@2y7 don’t let the door hit you on the way out.
@2fg What an ignorant thing to say. How many times was the US business on your mind the past several years? The US business has been ripped to shreds. Our working models and systems are just a sliver of what we once had. What International may be seeing now is something the US employees have been dealing with for years. We definitely know the stresses of disruptions, changes and cuts. And, I think we’re all pretty certain we know that there’s more to come….for everyone.
Regardless of where you are, we’re all going through the same thing.
@2fg you know what they say - burn baby burn!
@2ed Really? In what group?
@2f4 Behave. People know this restructuring will happen becuase most likely the people that are commenting are the ones that are beying laid off as we speak. I don't know if you're US based but International has been thrown to the fire. If you are indeed US based - open your eyes to the world outside of your 'great' country. There's more to the world and more to this business.
@2ez How do you know that this restructuring will happen?
End of April - layoffs will be sweeping across all BUs. Complete reorg and rebuild. The chaos of Cengage continues sadly
@2dr - could you mention which department? doesn't have to be too specific.
I know that two Systems Engineers were let go.
It’s across the board. People are being made to compete for their current roles
@29f More layoffs? what division?
