Thread regarding Teradata Corp. layoffs

How will it end?

Teradata’s realistic prospects are dim. So how will it end? I doubt any rational company would buy us. We’re losing market share and the technology race. We’re laying off the qualified and experienced people and leaving the buttkissing clueless management.

So do the operations just go through the motions until the money runs out? Do the Feds step in? How long will it take?

I’ve been with Teradata for almost a year! Why is everyone so negative on this site!? Teradata ha s a whose who of large enterprises and this has been a very difficult year for numerous reasons. Their is no reason why we can’t all work together and start creating new business!

4-5 years more as migrations are difficult and labor-intense so existing customer base will bleed YoY. But make no mistake, there are close to none new customers, competition is investing BIG $ to onboard new customers, use-cases, drive efficiency and improve performance (and have cloud native architectures, which can't be said about TD). That vision is WHY layoffs, why no real roadmap are a valid strategy by LT who simply maximise intrinsic value of what is on the truck. They understand that very well, which is simply professional. No need for delusional CEO talking about AI on Vintage in his Tesla

@2znl+18dKKgOE - do you mean the few big three or four at the top are choking or acquiring anything in the ecosystem which is a direct competitor in any of the niche domains of expertise? Do you mean market consolidation? Interesting if you could elaborate

Its a race to the bottom. All the cloud companies are bleeding cash. Don't know which ones will perish first, but sit back with the popcorn and enjoy.

When paycheck bounces is the sign. Seen it too many times. The pay is in a special account and fund transfer fails because the 90 float used to put off suppliers slipped. They always try to blame the CFO but at end of day board knows.
Good luck.

NCR is doing well. They don’t need a boat anchor like Teradata.

We could ask NCR to take us back.

When will it end..

Take a look at Teradata’s Annual Cash statement and do a simple regression - add a year or two for life support and you’ll probably not be far away. Another option could be to stop trying to main the EPS with buybacks etc.

(Millions of US $)
2019 $494
2018 $715
2017 $1,089

I have a feeling that your delusional comment is probably more the reality...

How do you square this decline with the inherent value of the MPP? To my mind ..

  • either they market has lost the non negotiable need for its benefits, which unless I drank too much kool-aid, cannot be denied or even minimised in any honest informed decision process for those big workloads;
  • or the need is still there but the competition somehow manages to bamboozle the customers convincing them they need something else than what their true problem requires?

For if we did have a genuine technological superiority, even tech debt laden, a leap to cloud and a year of investment would improve the outlook. But if the issue is that we've genuinely become replaceable by a second best with a bearable pain... it's time we call it a day.
Am I missing something?

PS. Theoretically there may be a third alternative - we're not even that great and we are delusional about what makes us so unique. But I don't believe that for a minute, I'd start looking elsewhere right now.

"Don't worry. Teradata is leader in Gartner quadrant now. Post it on LinkedIn and help Teradata grow. 😁"

Are you serious? Teradata has been a leader in the Gartner quadrant for years as revenue has dropped precipitiously. Were Gartner to set the stock price, Teradata would be golden. Unfortunately for Teadata, the market says otherwise. Being a quadrant leader is the booby prize when revenue and company valuation faulters.
