Thread regarding Lumen Technologies layoffs

Expression of Interest

Looks like they want to do another voluntary layoff for “select departments” for those who want to leave Lumen.

No other way to cut costs aside from lowering head count it seems. Never mind the fact that we have FCC complaints piling up and are getting sued/fined left and right.

COBRA allows you to continue your existing insurance plans (medical, dental, vision) for up to 18 months at 102% of the company’s premium. Lumen offers a “subsidized” rate for some period of time as part of you signing the severance agreement, and as part of the “please leave” incentive they’ll do it for a minimum of three months whereas normally it could be less based on time of service.

The price varies depending on which plan you have but with Surest and dental the subsidized cost is around $750/month and around $2300/month without.

Because this is a “qualified event” if your spouse is eligible to get insurance through their plan you can enroll even if it isn’t the open enrollment period. You might also find a cheaper option through your local state programs aka “Obamacare” exchanges.

You do have 45 days to decide if you’re going to take COBRA and it’s retroactive to your last day of coverage.

Hope that helps. Good luck all.

Verbiage reads to me as Cobra Subsidy is Only Referenced As "EMPLOYEE" with no mention of spouse or dependents ???

Pg 6 of reduction in force policy about 3/4th the way down.
Anybody else interpret as this?

I was one of 1200 last November and one month short of 25 years. I was a high performer, burped Kool-Aid on occasion, and worked hard. When I got the call, I was shocked followed by humiliated. I hadn't touched my resume in 10 years. I had 2 days to hand off my "major-firedrill" projects and got no response from peers or leadership. High priority, huh? Go figure. My point? Do yourself a favor, update your resume and know that you're expendable. I was complacent with a false sense of security. After 4 months, I found a job. I got a sizeable raise which made up for the last 8 years of little to no raises at Lumen. The grass is greener and my new employer treats me like a human. There is more to life than "disrupting the industry" and the sacrifice cycle that follows. Be better and look out for yourself, not bitter. Good luck to my old friends.

I just received my Cologuard box from UPS, and once I have filled the box, I am going to mail it to Kate because its the gift that keeps on giving.

you're not gonna get a box to return your laptop for at least 6 to 8 weeks.

what's different about this expression of interest package and what was given out in the Nov RIF? That was 2 weeks per completed year and 4 months of continued health care coverage as long as you pay what you had been paying.

A USPS email in your Lumen email account sounds like spam or phishing to me, unless you signed up for USPS Informed Delivery for your postal address using your Lumen email address for some strange reason

Just got a USPS notice in my Lumen email for a FULFILLMENT package being delivered by the U.S. Postal Service® (USPS®) on Friday. Tracking number said it’s 2 lbs. Anyone else get this?

Wonder if it’s a box to send back my computer? My dept is not eligible for EOI. Maybe laid off?

Very nice way to cut people. I have been thinking about early retirement anyway. So this will give me long vacation to enjoy summer then at the end of the year either take another job or take retirement which would be in a new year with no taxable income to show so healthcare through ACA would be low. What's wrong with that?

The worst thing is if you don't take it and they need more people gone to make numbers. You then get tapped on the shoulder and miss the bonus, not a huge amount but be nice to be on the right side of the coin. I think when Lumen gets rolling again, they'll be wishing they didn't have let a lot of their talent go.

Yeah, the RIF policy is typically 2 weeks for every full year of employment up to a max of 15 years. I don't believe any sales org was impacted.

Can someone please share which departments were offered? Was Sales & Marketing part of it? And, is it 2 weeks/yr?

November 2023 was my last month after 13 years at Lumen. I was not upset or shocked as I knew the new CEO Kate had a tough road to hoe after the work Jeff Story completed in selling key elements of the company. They took really good care of me with 2 weeks for every year, Cobra that was the exact same cost as my bi-weekly for 6 months and all bonus money also was paid. Severance was paid in less than one month too. It’s never personal… just how business is conducted these days. I miss my brothers and sisters at Lumen but I can say the sales pace requires a special mindset and desire. Once I detoxed from the crazy pace I have lived professionally for the last 25 years I realized something…. Life is really short… GO ENJOY EVERY MINUTE!!!

Considering my department probably won’t let allow me but I’m 62 with 25 years service. I read the HR document but I thought it said 30 weeks max, maybe add 25% to that? If it’s 2 weeks per year plus 25% I’ll be begging to go.

I received an offer 30 weeks pay the 25%. 8 months of Cobra insurance. At 61 no way I'm passing this offer up.

Best opportunity for people who has more than 12 years of experience. As company is not performing well. They can find another job outside.

In the past the subsidized cobra is just continuing to pay the same amount per month you did as an employee. Say that is $650 a month (for your selected healthcare plan you opted into). After your subsidized cobra period is over, then you would pay what employee + lumen actually pays monthly for your healthcare, typically $2000+ a month but really depends on the exact plan your in.

I believe the COBRA subsidy is offered through the number of weeks of severance, only difference is that there is a minimum of 3 mo COBRA if your severance doesn't go for 3 mo or more. Dunno what the 'subsidy' is tho, if it covers 100% of the premium or not

Update from mass markets was most departments eligible for EOI: product management, engineering construction and operations, program management and government, customer advocacy, and technology. Only Sales and Marketing are outright ineligible for EOI. Still the caveat of only “eligible employees” in each department, details of which are still to be seen.
