Thread regarding 2U Inc. layoffs

Describe your least favorite higher up without saying their name

What the title says. It’s getting stuffy in here, so let’s be honest about some of these sorry excuses for leaders. Gotta let it out somewhere.

I think it's telling that the comment I left before about the C-suite guy who came on the layoff call and proceeded to tell some tone-def story about how he shoots _his_ kids with paintball g-ns (I think the point was that life is hard and it's best to learn that early?) was flagged as being inappropriate. DUDE is the very definition of inappropriate.

Notice the stock is up? The layoff is coming and they told all their little buddies.

Not pointing fingers. But hit the nail on the head.

Some people like to hear themselves talk too much. As a leader visibility does not always equate to credibility. (Leadership. CH. 1.P4)

As an investor, I’ve heard some of 2U, force on leadership office hours where they ramble on and on. (Visibility vs credibility). Often these force hours of soapbox speaking leave units with displeasure. All the while taking away precious time of individual contributors, who drive bottom line performance.

From my colleagues I know Brad Adams
Is one of a kind and a phenomenal leader who is candid and personable. I wish I could say, I receive glowing remarks elsewhere.

It is with utter disgust this organization brags publicly about their placement line while
Laying off a majority.

I was treated like a prince from the start and despite having no education or experience I was promoted all the way to the top because the right guy loved me like a son.

@2xuo+1tn64kG8 Important distinction: I shoot MY OWN kids with paintballs.

This Glassdoor review says it all. Not posted by me but it resonated. All leaders in Product and Engineering

"The Leadership goes dark for months at a time working with crony consultants making mediocre deals in months when it should take weeks. They do not share any updates except for twice a year and when they do they gaslight saying things are fine when in fact the leadership has done a terrible job and lost millions of dollars of revenue. All this while paying themselves millions of dollars each.

Working here feels like if you were a landscaper trying to figure out what trees to trim but the owner of the estate lived in Britain and send you letters by carrier pigeon twice a year. It’s excruciating."

Ooh, fun scoring system just hit: all the down votes are the higher ups who saw themselves in the description and didn’t like it.

I think they ALL say “continue to crush goal”, but it makes my stomach turn.

My least favorite manager could not focus on their screen during meetings, they acted like they were in the bat cave doing important sh-t, but really they were just creating more spreadsheets to go with the standard spread sheets. Totally convinced of their own idea of “success”. Big “success” groomer vibes, meaning they assumed everyone wanted to be like them or should want to be like them and should be obsessed with work, so they tried fitting everyone into their boring annoying little mould.

Oh one more, they openly bragged about sc--wing a coworker out of parental leave and neglecting their own family for this job.

I'll take a large pumpkin spice iced latte with extra pumpkin swirl please. With whipped cream and a 10 for 1 reverse split on top.
