In the past, Keller paid far more than average based on how long you taught as adjunct. Those days are gone where an adjunct was paid $4000 for an 8 week 3 hour class. DeVry pay is comparable to other colleges and universities but not the amount of work and time required. I reviewed 10+ local and national adjunct pay plans / and can’t see why someone would choose DeVry.

i thought devry's pay rates for adjuncts were higher than other places.

Adjuncts are bailing out now that they’re familiar with the work requirements and class sizes. Not worth the pay and time requirements. There are much better adjunct positions available for online teaching. This will only put more work on the full timers left to carry the load.

is there a farewell party planned for JB?

Yes, they are throwing him a shower–it matches the color of his parachute: golden.

will they have ghost of hermann devry as the next president?

Yes, it will be like the ghost of Pam's Dad in Strange Brew from the 1980s–they just have to plug in the vending machine and he will materialize.

lrpy has a point: if you can’t hack the math, or you don’t have the comprehension and creative capacity to apply the complex concepts, it’s very difficult to BS your way through a EET or CIS degree.

Ironically EIS majors were the only majors that once provided any added value, but I suspect they don't work in this race to the bottom admission standard where everyone passes and everyone gets in. Graduating with a degree in CIS or EET requires that you actually grasp the foundations of programming, math and engineering before moving up. You cannot artificially pass students through that rigor very long before the entire program becomes a farce. The remaining degrees are ones that can be more easily faked because they contain more pre-packaged fluff that does not require any true comprehension.

islb: eh? I don't understand the context of your post...can you flesh it out, please?

@islb: As we long ago discarded the use of the word “turnaround” for these initiatives, we will now abide by your request that we cease and desist from using “transformation,” as this was the brainchild and intellectual property of RP. Henceforth all DVU staff shall instead apply the term “transmogrification” to appropriately characterize the anticipated outcomes from this and related organizational activities.

what's this EIS "transformation"? shouldn't they pay royalty fee to RP for such a blatant use of the word "transformation"?

The layoffs will be mid Jan-March. It will be a restructuring.

3ppa it means more passing grades, ergo fewer drop outs. Whether there is quality to the courses or legitimacy to the grades–well, I'd be very surprised to discover that students were learning, earning their grades, or that there was any quality to the course.

I remember in 2012, a then high-ranking administrator telling me to make my courses "more achievable." I thought then, "how low can I go?!" I believe things have worsened since then...

Dear DVU colleagues & faculty members,

At DeVry University, we have the privilege to work at an organization whose purpose and mission has a profound impact on the lives of our students. I value every minute I spend with you on this good and noble work. As a team, we have accomplished a great deal over the past few years. Most notably, we successfully established DeVry as an independent University, stabilized student enrollment and returned DeVry to profitability, and are now seeing new heights in student course success and persistence! I am very proud of all the work you have done to establish a foundation upon which to carry DeVry forward.

Today, I must let you know that I have made a very personal decision to step away from my role as President and CEO of DeVry University. While this was a difficult decision for me, I am confident that this is the right time. My goal has been to ensure DeVry was on the right path before making this decision. The Board of Trustees is supportive of my decision, and together we are working on a transition plan that will assure that the University continues to make great progress. The Board will be conducting a comprehensive search to find the right leader for the future of DeVry. In the meantime, I will remain in my role through January, working with the executive team and the Board to ensure a smooth transition.

I will be communicating more about the transition plan in the coming weeks but I do ask you to keep your attention on the reason we are all here—to serve our students and each other with the passion and CARE that make DVU great! What each of you do for our students is important; what all of you do together for them is transformational. I am proud of what DeVry does, of who DeVry is, and especially proud to have been part of the DVU family. As I have said before, be proud – DeVry’s future is bright. #DeVryProud

With much appreciation,

James Bartholomew
President and CEO
DeVry University

So...he's asking to jump ship...isn't customary to be pushed...it was done to Hamburger and then Ron Paul and maybe even Dave Pauldine...

but anyway...the Bartholomew thing...will there be a farewell address? Or at least a farewell selfie?
