Thread regarding ExxonMobil Corp. layoffs

Release the Tiger from the cage

Any one else think them dragging the results of the study out is just hurting morale even more? Given this is no secret anymore, the news just needs to come out for the US.

B–ching about being stressed because you make 4x more at XOM than you would elsewhere is on par with DW b–ching about being underpaid.

If that’s what you think as logic, no wonder this company and this country is in trouble.

And the U.S. bottom ten percent live better than the billions of people in undeveloped countries. I am sure they think you are incredibly wealthy. By your logic, donate everything you have and go do volunteer work in Sudan. mo–n

Most of the US live and retire on a fraction of what the average XOM employee earns. It’s hard to listen to the top 10% gripe about not having enough.

You obviously see life through the tiny lens of your own ar*ogant and empathy lacking self-importance. Even if one can anticipate additional financial responsibilities in retirement, that doesn't mean that you can adequately prepare for it. A salary only goes so far and allows for only so much to contribute to a savings plan. Maybe you have a magic unicorn that delivers excess income when you think it may be necessary.

But, people that think like you won't face these problems later in life because all of your savings will go to the benefit of one person - yourself. May you live large, and hopefully others can meet the responsibilities that you obviously are not wise enough to understand, and even if you did, too selfish to care about.

If you think you have to wait for an announcement, you are NSI and will be gone without much of a severance. Next round will be completed by early December, we want you to have time off to enjoy Christmas.

Anyone who was NI will be NSI now that the previous NSIs are gone. Anyone who was in the middle will become NI, you will be gone 1Q21.

If you are in the middle or lower and can get another job, take it now while it is still available.

Sorry for the bad news people, but someone has to tell you reality.

Quit playing video games and watching football, update your resume and get it out there!

PUT IN THAT WORK DEVON!

Unless there’s an unforeseen medical condition, you should’ve been able to plan for old age and your financial responsibilities. The number of people of older people who planned poorly is probably indicative of why XOM is failing.

And after Enron, who the hell invests their savings with the company that employs them?

For those who are so sure that anyone at or near retirement is filthy rich and should walk away to leave room for young pups, you obviously have no idea what awaits you when you turn 50 or 60. We live in a sandwich generation, where those who enter retirement are often still providing some financial support to their children, grandchildren and elderly parents. Guess how much assisted living costs for elderly parents.....easily $6-8k per month. Not covered by insurance or Medicare. With modern medicine, also very likely that your parents will outlive their savings by several years. All of this eats up your 401k quickly.

Divorce, sickness, death of a spouse, etc. all bring financial burdens. How about market losses? Retirement for most no longer means kicking back and living a life of luxury. It's a blessing to still have loved ones you can care for, but make no mistake, the costs can be enormous. So don't assume the "old guys" have it made. Retirement often brings financial responsibilities that were never imagined. You will see someday.

If you are making 4x more at XOM than you would elsewhere, you should’ve saved enough money to not be stressed unless you’re an id–t.

I have a friend who is a high executive... (I’m a lowly worker bee).... she flat out told me that she highly recommends I get my resume together (although I have been top ranked for 18 of my 20 years; now high middle)..... sad thing is, I am fully aware that I’m so overpaid that if I have to take a job at another company I will probably get 25% of what I make at EM... I realize that may be why I’m probably on the hit list, but needless to say, I’m stressed.

Leaving so someone else can stay is mo–nic. You leave if it makes sense for you, and your financial, life situation.

I predict voluntary severance offered at the end of this year. Then setting % NSI for next year to deal with remaining oversupply. Every person over 55 who does not take the package is causing someone else to loose their job. If you can afford to go, please do. It’s the right thing to do.

Use as much of the benefits as possible. You don’t know if you will be employed next month. Remember, it never hurts to plan.

All NIs and a decent portion of the Goods may be separated in the next round of job cuts.

I am in the NI group. Does anyone know if the NIs are getting impacted in this round?

I understand that I will be a NSI next year, if the current trend follows.

Please let the tiger lose already and layoff as much people now. Other companies might be reluctant to hire the first wave of PIP's because they are marked as lemons. With a general layoff, at least this misconception could be erased.

In the U.S., it is likely that about 1600 employees were assigned NSI this summer in Round 1 and kicked to the curb without a fair layoff severance. Wouldn’t be surprised if Round 2 involves an additional 3000 employees. Rounds 1 and 2 will then add up to about an 18% workforce reduction in the U.S., which is generally consistent with Europe and Australia. They will likely admit Round 2 is a layoff and provide those employees a severance (SPOSA). It will almost certainly be involuntary. These estimates exclude Operations employees at the sites and any reductions there would be additive.

Yes. And the VPs and directors damn.. We don't have answers yet... But it will come... At least 2x per month doesn't help. Couple in all the PIPs expiring soon with many friends in the company leaving.

Very toxic and demoralized at work right now

Yes. I’m almost 100% certain I’m safe and it still stresses me out. I had friends lose their jobs earlier this year who didn’t deserve it, and I’m expecting it again. Just get it over with.
