Thread regarding Lowe's Cos. layoffs

Union representation a must!

It's time that everyone realizes a union is necessary at Lowe's so employees are treated properly.

I've already been in contact with one and soon there will be a sign up drive, starting in New England. Lowe's will try and force employees to watch anti union videos and threaten employees with lies.

By law, you have the right to discuss unionization on your own tkme. Lowe's cannot do anything to you as it is illegal for the company to do so. If the company threatens or fires you, call the National Labor Relations Board immediately.

Pass the word quietly that it's coming.

Here are things we will look for:

  1. Full timers guaranteed 40 hours per week.
  2. Part timers guaranteed 26 hours per week if they so desire.
  3. Once the scheduled is posted, part timers hours cannot be cut without their permission.
  4. Immediate raises covering the cost of living increases over the last 2+ years of the pandemic, not a lousy 2 1/2-3% increase. Currently, employees are losing money.
  5. Additional hourly pay for employees with licenses such as order picker and reach truck.
  6. Additional pay for sales associates when asked to man a register.
  7. Night differential for those working any hours when the store is closed.
  8. A real grievance procedure for employees not the joke HR currently is.
  9. No unionized store will be closed without financial proof...in essence the union seeing the books.
  10. Employees cannot be asked while on break to return to the floor.

If you have anything additional you'd like to see added, please reply.

Yes, there will be union dues deducted from you paycheck. But you've lost 10-12% of your money already by Lowe's not keeping up with the cost of living. A $500 check is worth $430 now if you're lucky.

Which union are you going with? I think it would be good if we were all under the same union umbrella when it's time to negotiate or if it comes to it strike.

@Ana $400 a quarter. You were probably making $64000 a year? I speak from experience. I made $84,000 in 2017 as an electrician. My dues were $1627 for the year. I got hurt and now as a department supervisor I make $42,000. More responsibility, crappier schedule, 10x the head ache for half the pay. Shame is I got hurt in an car accident and can’t get on ladders anymore.

Union dues are typically calculated as a percent to pay. Most common documented rates are between 1.5% and 2.5% of hourly rate. So a full timer making $13 an hour will pay approx $676 annually.

$400 in union dues is nothing if you get the right raises for cost of living. If you make $18 an hour and you get 7% right now that's $1.26 additional per hour. At 40 hours that's over $50 a week. The union dues woukd be covered in 8 weeks. Do the math!

  1. 00/yr is way too much for me too. No way I’m paying that much. Get it down to 200.00 a year and we’ll talk. Otherwise I’m not interested.

For those naysayers. Let's even say union dues are $500 a year for full timers but you get a $1 an hour increase. That's $40 a week which translates to $2080 a year. That's an extra $1580.

Plus the other negotiated added benefits.

@2vus+1giUjzKn $400 a year is $33 a month. That's on the low end of dues for most unions.

I left Lowe's recently, but this is absolutely the only way to save the employees. I was also in New England. Add set schedules for full timers, and and fix the bonus structure. They steadily increase the threshold so they have to pay people out less often. Also add something about increasing pay yearly based on inflation. Get the cost of benefits down.

  1. 00?! Yea right. You organizers better step up your game. No workers in the stores that I know are willing to pay that much in dues—At least not while the union officers get to shoot pool and play cards all day at the union hall.

By the way union dues average about $400 a year for full time employees per year. It's about 2 hours of work per month. But if you get the raises due you, you'll make up for the entire yearly cost of dues in 5 weeks.
