No kidding about not keeping up with new tech. I watched one of my co-workers try to adjust to using something as simple as git and it was painful. Simply did not understand the concept, and created new repositories (not branches) for every story he was working on. I tried for an hour to explain the concepts and it never sunk in. ...and he refused to even read the docs after I gave up.

The latest technology is only as good as the individual using it.and the industry knowledge they posses . Using new tech insures nothing...staying antiquated does more harm The balance a company needs to strive for is to promote development internally, provide solid clear roadmaps on direction so developers can get ahead/stay ahead of the game utilizing external resources . Trading out industry experience for just tech knowledge never good for the long run. Look at our "devops" just a buzz word...far from culture... Using the client production as Allscripts QA is a total failure.

Professionals, in any field, take it upon themselves to stay current. If hired employees do not have the initiative to do this then the company is also at fault for not hiring true professionals. Shame on both the employee and the company that hires them.

It's true that we reap what we sow. Part of the problem over the last couple of years is the number (and behavior) of emps from acquired companies thinking that their slack approach to programming using outdated tech should be qualification enough to keep them worthy of employment. The lack of willingness to learn new technology, particularly on their own time, is basically a red flag to upper management that there is no justification for a resource to pull down as much income as they currently do, particularly those who have been with any of the companies over ten-plus years. This is a problem of entitlement.
"I only want to learn new tech when my company pays for training", "I deserve my income because I've worked here for a long time". "We should continue using out-dated tech because we've used it for 20 years" (even though it should have been dumped years ago to remain technologically competitive.)

This is the 'reap what you sow' part, and it's really pathetic. But it sure makes this website entertaining .

some good advice here. I plan to work as little as possible and spend most of my time job hunting. This Company is toast and there's no loyalty felt for their employees anymore. The culture I use to love about this company is gone.

@2vep+16JmP7IT Why give 2 weeks? If you're fully remote, keep on collecting salary from Allscripts until you've made up the salary reduction.

I’ve got an interview elsewhere today and really hoping I get this and they lay me off right before I can submit my 2 weeks.

I spend 7 hours a day to hunt for new jobs and one hour for work. If they do not like it, they can lay me off. I will feel more than happy to take the package and move on.

Look at the roots. Allscripts was created by Venture Capitalists FOR Venture Capitalists.

Let’s just put it this way. If a friend approached me about an open Allscripts position, I’d talk them out of it even if I knew they’d be a rock star.

I think this sentiment says it all.

As others have mentioned... There is no good reason, other than the difficulty of job searching during a pandemic. Allscripts is in a death spiral of offshoring. Cutting costs, decreasing quality, losing customers, cutting costs, rinse and repeat.

The end game will be C-level and middle managers onshore, with as much as possible offshore (and at the cheapest possible price that the C's think they can get away with). I can tell you from my experience, that the quality of work coming from those cheap contracts in India is utter garbage. Unfortunately, the managers in charge of those teams had no technical skills and were completely unable to judge the work being turned in as being subpar and unacceptable. Like I said, death spiral.

My advice: Job search hard now and join a company that you actually believe in and that values your abilities and experience.

One reason is contractual obligations. Some clients require a local presence. Allscripts would gladly offshore but hospitals in Canada, UK, and the US East Coast require onshore presences.

Just as factory workers were exploited in the Industrial Era, corporate America has mastered the exploitation of its office workers. Lower or non-existent raises, reduced benefits and long hours is now the norm. CEO pay is obscenely higher then employees. In many families both parents have to work to make ends meet. The game is rigged and only the elite in this society are winning.

Corporate America has made finding a new job in third world countries as simple as walking over to the building next door. No nationality race has a superior brain. It is the understanding experience and work ethic of a persons that provides the ability to perform. Unfortunately for overseas workers they are relying on the same clueless management leadership we all write about here. After 15 years. It was enough for me to leave. Seeing absolute failures be promoted to management levels..seeing absolute failures come in as leadership roles... My eyes rolled anytime someone was "said to be a mentor' or worse when an individual threw out that they mentor people...lol.

I’ve actually been thinking the exact same thing. Benefits are average at best, severance is average, many companies do better. I haven’t worked for many companies but Allscripts is by far the least rewarding, least inspiring, poorest lead company I have worked for. I feel bad for the offshore teams, they farm them in at high numbers, give them average salaries and expect them to perform optimally with little training and resources. Honestly I pray I get laid off as part of a future cut - actively looking for something new. I am not here to judge others experience, only to provide mine and nothing I have experienced makes me want to stay or recommend employment at Allscripts to others.

Why stay? Some useful benefits that decent American companies used to make available to their American companies, including severence. These are things not much valued in the third world.
