"No. It applies to people that want to multi-6-figure compensation for doing things that can be done far cheaper in India. Executives play by different rules, are paid for other things, are in positions of power, and cover each others' backs."

Sigh, the folks in India are merely repeating what was told to them.
It is called a plantation. If you had done a postdoc in physics you would understand what it takes to get to that level of knowledge in that particular field and why they are paid 6 figures. Executives don't play by any rules and I suspect don't have enough knowledge to make or improve their own product. Forgetting the fact the most are not held accountable for their poor decisions.

"Government work is not-for-profit. Public education is also non-profit."
The word non-profit is meaningless. I look at net worth/salary/medical/pension vs skill set.

"Government should be gutted and public education needs competition. Neither were authorized by the Constitution. Good lawyers can't be easily outsourced to India, unlike non-innovative tech work."

I am no genius but I am pretty sure the Constitution authorized the government.
Liaryers do not have a terribly useful skill but seem to be more wealthy than average.
Their work can be easily outsourced to India who frankly produce much better hagglers.

"tech business is a very competitive for-profit business. "
No it is not. A long time ago when the government had more integrity it sued
companies in the bay area like Apple for not trying to hire their competitors' employees.
That is not a sign of competition but the sign of companies who make widgets very cheaply much like how our plantations used to operate.

"You need to bring value."
You know what does not bring value. A lot of d-mb rich people who cannot create.
I see a lot of wasted resources there that need to be reclaimed.

apparently this does not apply to most of our government, lawyers, investors, and large parts of our education system - something is not quite right here

@2riv+1pAp9IgY: OP obviously no longer works for Q, or he'd have a colleague 'summarize the summary'.

"does that include the skilless overpaid fools on the top?"

No. It applies to people that want to multi-6-figure compensation for doing things that can be done far cheaper in India. Executives play by different rules, are paid for other things, are in positions of power, and cover each others' backs.

Government and education can't even be compared. Government work is not-for-profit. Public education is also non-profit. Both have gone rogue and off-the-rails.
Government should be gutted and public education needs competition. Neither were authorized by the Constitution. Good lawyers can't be easily outsourced to India, unlike non-innovative tech work.

Argue all you want about other industries, but the tech business is a very competitive for-profit business. "Innovate or die" applies to both companies and individual tech workers. You can't do a job that is only one small step above an auto-worker and expect to make multiple-6-figures. You need to bring value.

"You must learn new skills and move around often. Staying in the same department too long will put you on the rode to extinction at Q."

does that include the skilless overpaid fools on the top?

The OP question is one of the stupid questions I've ever seen here. What were you thinking?

Some departments in Q are really good, while others are really bad. It mostly depends on the VP and the value that Execs put on the department. Clearly, anyone working on AI/ML is golden right now. Modem systems will always be golden, modem SW less so. Q isn't a bad place if you don't mind long hours, evenings spent in meetings with India, and limited career growth opportunities. Just keep in mind that once your technology moves from the novel stage to the legacy stage, then you're done. Your job will be moved to India. That's the Q game...hire new technology experts in the US, develop the technology until it can be maintained in India, then move the jobs to India. No company worth anything will continue to employ US workers at 3x the cost of India when those workers aren't doing anything that can't be done in India. You must learn new skills and move around often. Staying in the same department too long will put you on the rode to extinction at Q.

@cuk+1pAp9IgY It's normal to have internet trolls. Q should be changed, too. Why are there so many trolls in Q? Are there many opaque and shady things that offend many people who work in Q? This is a question worth thinking about.

Don't summarize here and feed the trolls and they will eventually leave. They are very disappointed no one wrote anything.....so far. If they work in Q, can get a summary from a colleague.
